40 Years Ago, today!
This Day In Hollywood Aug 9 1985 Adventure comedy film "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" starring Paul Reubens is released

Pee-wee's Big Adventure is a 1985 American adventure comedy film directed by Tim Burton in his feature-film directing debut. The film stars Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman, along with Elizabeth Daily, Mark Holton, Diane Salinger and Judd Omen. The screenplay, written by Reubens with Phil Hartman and Michael Varhol, tells the story of Pee-wee's search for his stolen bicycle and has been compared to the 1948 Italian film Bicycle Thieves.

Following the success of The Pee-wee Herman Show in 1981, Reubens was hired by the Warner Bros. film studio and began writing the script for Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Impressed with Burton's work on the short film Frankenweenie (1984), the producers and Reubens hired him to direct. Filming took place in California and Texas. The film was scored by Danny Elfman, marking his first among many collaborations with Burton.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure was theatrically released on August 9, 1985, by Warner Bros., grossing over $40 million in North America. It became a cult film and continued to accumulate positive feedback. It was nominated for a Young Artist Award and was followed by two standalone sequels, Big Top Pee-wee (1988) and Pee-wee's Big Holiday (2016). Its financial success, followed by Burton's equally successful Beetlejuice in 1988, prompted Warner Bros. to hire Burton to direct the 1989 film Batman.

The society convenes for their summer series with the 1986 TV movie The Parent Trap II! The original Parent Trap was one of our favorite movies - it was so well thought-out and entertaining, surely this one will live up to it as a proper sequel, right? Right?

This week we have the SEASON 5 FINALE! And to celebrate, we're hunting for gold AND PROTECTING IT with 2004's thriller National Treasure. Beware of ever-present 90s antagonist Sean Bean though... he's wily. Will we find lots of gold while protecting our country's history?

Remembering...
June 10, 1949:
Child actor & Disney Legend Kevin Corcoran is born in Santa Monica, California. He started acting when he was just two!

Although he was never a Mouseketeer, Corcoran appeared in "Mickey Mouse Club" serials - always portraying several different (but similar) characters, nicknamed Moochie in "Further Adventures of Spin and Marty" and "The New Adventures of Spin and Marty." Corcoran also played a character named Montgomery "Moochie" Daniels in the 1959 fantasy comedy "The Shaggy Dog."

He supplied the voice of Goliath II in Disney's 1960 animated comedy short "Goliath II" and in 1961, the voice of Goofy Jr. in the animated short "Aquamania." His long list of childhood Disney credits include the feature films "Old Yeller," "Pollyana," "Swiss Family Robinson," "Toby Tyler," "Babes in Toyland," "The Mooncussers," "Savage Sam," "A Tiger Walks," "Bon Voyage!" and "The Boatniks." In 1963 he starred in the television movie "Johnny Shiloh."

As an adult, he directed and produced many Disney films and TV shows - such as the 1977 "The New Mickey Mouse Club," and the features "Return from Witch Mountain"(1978), "The North Avenue Irregulars" (1979), and "Herbie Goes Bananas" (1980). He was also the producer of Disney’s 1983 short-lived comedy series "Zorro and Son."

Avoiding the disappointment and scandal of many child stars—he maintained and balanced a successful and stable career with a happy home life.

Corcoran was honored as a Disney Legend on October 9, 2006. Sadly, Kevin Anthony Corcoran passed at age 66 on October 6, 2015.
