Surprise! Here comes our tenth release 🥲

Safe Space Records has opened the doors to their universe and invited artists near and dear to their hearts to exhibit their musical worlds. The label’s second compilation album “MFSP 2025” is a haven of SPR artists and other talented musicians inside each of their bubbles in Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, and Stockholm. It’s a reflection of the different temperaments they’ve uncovered in the pop music landscape ~ new collaborations, exciting artist pseudonyms, and unique styles. An album that spans across sounds and genres such as melancholic ambient, guitar-driven pop, and late-night club sounds. But what really connects the new worlds of the compilation is a shared love for exploring unconventional approaches to pop music. Enjoy.

[SPR 009] NIIX - ocean / at bay

NIIX’s double-single EP is here!! We are so happy about this release together and celebrating today with two fab remixes from talented UK-based producers.

First up, ‘s DaiSu wraps ‘ocean’ in euphoric breaks + swirling vocals. Speaking about their remix, they said: “The first bit of ‘ocean’ that really spoke to me was the rippling pad, which I ended up building my remix around. NIIX’s vocals also really stood out; I’ve tried to keep some of the original’s call-and-response vibe, with a layered vocal chop running through the background.”

For ‘at bay’, Manchester-based, .radio resident Qwirk brings the brooding bass: “I was inspired by some of the early darkside dubstep (El-B, Horsepower Productions, Slaughter Mob, etc.) when working on this. I wanted to mix skippy percussion and a heavy sub with the lush vocals and chords from the original.”

[SPR 009-S2] NIIX - at bay

NIIX’s forthcoming EP release is an introduction to her sonic universe - thumping kicks and driving basslines meet soaring vocal melodies with storytelling lyrics.

While her last single, ‘ocean,’ represents the liberating realization of needing to leave a relationship, ‘at bay’ sees this reality sink in. The earnest vocals and yearning keys build up to a halftime jungle flip, representing the conflict of emotions.

Whilst all things must run their course, it doesn’t mean it’s not still sad.

NIIX embraces sadgirl spring with ‘ocean / at bay’, her hotly-anticipated new record. The double single traverses the ebb and flow of a relationship reaching its end, and the conflicting emotions that come with that. ‘ocean’ represents the liberating realisation of needing to be alone. a track for crying in the club, fusing ethereal vocals + floaty synths akin to Oklou with Shygirl-inspired bone-rattling drums.

[NEW SPR FAMILY MEMBER]

We are excited to welcome Manchester-born, London-based NIIX to the Safe Space Records family! Our worlds collided on a cute Dischord channel a few months back ~~ fast-forward to now, and we are anticipating her double single release via SPR. 🫂

NIIX is a singer, producer and DJ bringing you cry in the club (ethe)realness.

Her earnest vocals tell stories of love + loss to the backdrop of euphoric synths + Shygirl-esque drums, blending genres much like her DJ sets. Her hunger for anything bassy + percussive has been seen at the likes of Keep Hush + Gottwood Festival, paired with her unmatched energy behind the decks.

NIIX brings this drive + passion to all of her projects, with her debut self-released EP ‘I’ making several Spotify editorial playlists, alongside radio play on NTS + BBC Introducing.

Community is also at the forefront of NIIX’s mission, using radio residencies on Sister Midnight FM, Subtle + Voices Radio to spotlight underrepresented artists from across the globe. She is also co-founder of Dubs Club, a national meet-up group for marginalised communities to come together + share their electronic music productions.

[SPR008] FLIRT - Fake Rain

We are honored to be part of FLIRT’s final single release as a duo. 🥲💗 We joined forces about one year ago and embarked on a sound journey where we were deeply developing another layer to their world. Even though we are sad to see the end of this loving and hardworking duo, we are so happy we got to be a small part of the end of their journey.

FLIRT celebrates 6 years full of q***r joy and fluidity by releasing their very last song, “Fake Rain.” A clubby homage to historical q***r icons like George Michael, who was outed after being caught having public in*******se with an undercover cop, or Marlene Dietrich, who starred in the first le***an kiss in film history. The song kicks off with a catchy stand-alone chorus and quickly leads into an electrifying club hit driven by a pumping house beat and piano pattern. The rich production mixes typical house sounds with a distorted electric guitar and acid synths. The vocal performance is as joyful as it is vulnerable, just like the gender play the duo embraces in the lyrics. Are you ready for this fantasy?

The upcoming single “No4” by nica unfug and Nikhil Seth is a dark, experimental journey blending avant-garde sounds with baile beats and atmospheric vocals. The haunting lyrics, “ночь, туман, чёрная вода” (night, fog, black water) paint a vivid picture of isolation and introspection, as the protagonist drifts alone, searching for a shore that seems unreachable. Ethereal melodies and pulsating rhythms amplify the feeling of being lost in a vast, endless sea, with the stars and moon retreating behind the clouds—a sonic exploration of solitude, release, and the unrelenting pull of the unknown.

[SPR002] nica unfug, flaneur2 - Hübsch EP

Over the past few months, Nica Unfug and flaneur2 have explored a diverse range of sounds, from energetic peaktime club tracks to more intricate, experimental soundscapes. Their latest EP, "Hübsch," successfully weaves these earlier releases into a cohesive narrative, while deepening their exploration of a uniquely melancholic club vibe.

Their approach to sound is further enriched by their eclectic use of language. Nica Unfug fluidly transitions between English, German, and Russian, often within the same track, adding layers of complexity and appeal.

The creation of the "Hübsch" EP was a collaborative endeavor, involving contributions from numerous artists including Sara4k and EuroEyez, and featuring artwork from various visual artists in the Hamburg scene. This collective effort has resulted in a rich, multifaceted project that resonates with a broad audience.

We are delighted to welcome back our soft-pop sweetie, elyot (fka LLEE TOTO), for her first release of 2024. Everythingness is different from her past releases because it is the title soundtrack of the autofiction animated short film by Julia Jesionek. In a colorful chaos of ambivalence and brushstrokes, the animation’s protagonist embarks on her journey in search of reliable truths.

Everythingness envelops listeners in a cocoon of elyot’s serene melodies and gentle production, its soft rhythms acting as a soothing balm. When worlds collide, a celestial being is born. ‘Celestial’ is nica unfug & flaneur2’s second single, which features their close friend and fellow SPR family member EuroEyez. nica unfug’s mesmerizing voice describes the feeling of safety and security, while EuroEyez’s ethereal autotune vocals portray the guardian angels that protect them… celestial beings, visible only to themselves and hidden from the rest of the world. While keeping the ruff soundscape of their debut single, ‘Celestial’ drowns hard-hitting gabber drums into a bed of noisy pads and lush vocals, creating the mystical atmosphere that embodies the productions and music video.

When diving into the depths of "2100" you'll explore a feeling of softness trough warm ambient synths and whispering vocals. LLEE TOTO's lyric and music video is a profoundly intimate portrayal of their personal experiences and emotions, offering a raw and unfiltered glimpse into their artistic vision.

“2100“ is LLEE TOTO’s second single and will release digitally on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms.
