Drink 7 - Cobra Fang
Skipping ahead to our second classic tiki recipe with a Frankie’s twist, the Cobra Fang mixes Myer’s Dark Rum, Hart & Sons Original 1804 80 proof Rum (), Hawaiian Sun Luau Punch (), orange juice, falernum, fresh lime juice, Angostura Bitters () and Grenadine. Be careful around this one…it can bite ya!

Drink 6 - Bombora Blast
This Frankie's Original sports both Bacardi Gold () and Hart and Son 151 () rums, cherry brandy, fresh lime juice, cranberry juice cocktail and guava nectar, plus a kick of Rockstar Energy Drink (). It will really get your juices (lava?) flowing.

We’ve said it before, isn’t really a tiki bar, but they sure know their tiki drinks. We usually come in for their Classic Mai Tai, but Coastal Colada sounded too good to pass up. And we’re glad we tried one. 😋

Zombie and Tropical Itch
Cute neighborhood bar turned tiki surf bar outside the craziness of the Gaslamp District. Nice atmosphere, cute decor and a complimentary Luau Shooter welcome shot when you sit down. Definitely give it a try.

Drink 14 - Demon Rhumba
Take a whirl with:

1 1/2 oz Bacardi Orange ()
1/2 oz Cointreau ()
1/2 oz Hana Bay 151 proof rum
1/4 oz lime juice
1/4 oz Orange Bitters
1 oz sweet &sour
2 oz Fanta Orange Soda ()

Build over ice in a 10 oz pilsner glass, pour into a cocktail shaker, and without shaking, re-pour into the pilsner. Garnish with mint and enjoy.
After a couple of these you might end up dancing with the devil.

We’ve taken a little time off from tiki-ing to do some bourbon-ing in Kentucky. And while we were crawling the Bourbon Trail, we found this gem at . We were told their bar manager had gotten some tiki mugs and wanted to show them off, so she invented this.
The Iron Ranger -

Drink 13 - Crazy Al’s High Roller
Created for Frankie’s Tiki Room’s first anniversary and to be served in the limited-edition Crazy Al () designed commemorative tiki mug, this elixir includes Pyrat XO rum (.rum), Heering Cherry Liqueuer (), Tanqueray Rangpur Gin (), guava nectar, papaya nectar, sweet and sour, falernum, Angostura bitters (), and a splash of club soda. You will big with this worthy tribute.

Drink 12 - Coco the Nut
According to “Liquid Vacation”, the name of this drink was inspired by their “crazy neighbor lady”. Regardless, it’s a tasty tribute with equal parts of Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum (), Macadamia Nut Liqueur, Tuaca (), and amaretto (), plus Cream of Coconut (.lopez.usa) and papaya nectar. You don’t have to be nuts to like it.

Drink 11 - Dr. Funk
This classic recipe derives its name, according to Dilford’s Guide, from Dr. Bernard Funk, physician to writer Robert Louis Stevenson in Samoa, who concocted and prescribed an absinthe laced limeade to stave off heatstroke. This cure contains a generous amount of Myers’s Original Dark Rum, Pernod (), lemon and lime juices, grenadine and club soda. Even if you don’t need medical attention, this could be the remedy you seek.

Ho’ Omaha, the Hawaiian word for vacation, surely describes where we have been the past few weeks. Between vacation, taxes, and of course, some work too, we let a couple weeks slide by without any drink or Hawaiian word posts. But we’re back on track and ready to resume. Aloha!

Monkey vs Mai Tai - We stowed away at Stowaway Tiki Bar in Tustin, CA for a couple of drinks and dinner. It’s part of our So Cal tiki bar tour and there’s a surprising number of them in LA and Orange Counties.
The Mai Tais are pretty good and close to the 1944 classic. The Rum Runner in the Surfing Monkey mug was sweet and fruity. We were hoping to bring the mug home but were informed that they’re sold out 😞. So we’ll be back to claim one.

Drink 10 - Cockeyed Castaway
Sit right back and you'll hear a tale of this Frankie's original cocktail. Like the crew and the passengers of the SS Minnow, Bacardi Orange has gone missing, discontinued from the distiller. In order to make this a close as possible to the original recipe, we substituted Bacardi Superior Silver Rum () and added several drops of Fee Brothers Orange Flower Water () along with Wray & Nephew White Overproofed Rum (), Cointreau () Regan's Orange Bitters No. 6, Rockstar Recovery Orange energy drink () and orange juice. Don't find yourself stranded without one.
