I had the pleasure of sitting down once again with the phenomenal young women from Yes Girls Create — Danielle Johnson, Antoinette Lashley, and Dyani Myers — as they open up about their senior year journeys. From capturing unforgettable moments and navigating AP classes to preparing for prom, college applications, and leadership roles, this episode is filled with honesty, laughter, and reflection. 🎓💫
Their stories remind me that when young women are supported, they don’t just dream — they rise, lead, and create impact. ✨

Hey friend! đź’›
Today’s episode of The Voice of Uniondale is one of strength, healing, and community — and I’m beyond grateful to share this space with two incredible women who are turning personal loss into purpose. This conversation aired live, and it’s now available for replay on Spotify — so if you missed it, now’s your chance to catch up!
I sat down with Gina Lissone, a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, certified grief educator, and the founder of Widow’s Journey: Reach One, Teach One, Inc. After losing her husband in 2023, Gina created a safe, inclusive space that offers real support for widows of color. Also joining us was the amazing Medina “Dina” Fonville, a registered nurse with over 30 years in hospice care. She became a widow in 2021 and now uses her story to uplift others walking the same path.
We talked about everything — from how grief can reshape you, to how community can heal you. One moment that stayed with me was when Gina said, “We don’t just grieve our person — we grieve the version of ourselves we were with them.” That was a moment. Dina followed with, “No one talks about how quiet the world gets after loss… but community brings back the noise, the light, the love.” Whew. These women are doing more than speaking — they’re building a movement of sisterhood, education, and healing.

Hey friend! 🌟
Today’s episode of The Voice of Uniondale just dropped and the replay is now available on Spotify 🎧. I had the incredible honor of sitting down with Dr. Nyakya T. Brown — the Mayor of South Floral Park and a licensed mental health counselor with over 15 years of experience supporting people through trauma, healing, and transformation. She shared her story of leading with heart, healing with intention, and showing up for her community with strength and purpose 💪🏾❤️.

One of the most powerful moments in our conversation was when Dr. Brown talked about how true leadership begins with self-awareness and healing 🧠✨. She said, “We can’t build sustainable communities if we’re not doing the internal work first.” That really stuck with me. We also dove into the importance of raising emotionally intelligent children 👶🏽📚 and how parents can model healthy behaviors. Her insight on breaking generational cycles with compassion and education is something everyone needs to hear 🙌🏾.

This week, I had an incredible conversation with Anika Joseph — a healthcare leader, nonprofit founder, and unstoppable force for good. Through her Bronx-based organization, Women’s Empire, Inc., she’s impacted over 1,600 lives with programs focused on education, wellness, and leadership. And now, she’s launching the EmpowerHer Fund to fuel even more change across NYC.

One moment that really stood out was when Anika said, “We don’t wait for permission to lead — we show up, we build, and we lift others as we climb.” Another powerful takeaway? “The biggest shift in my purpose came when I realized healing isn’t just personal — it’s community work.”
This episode is filled with purpose, passion, and practical insight. If you’ve been looking for motivation or clarity on how to use your voice and vision to uplift others — this is the one to listen to.
