After releasing our episode on this case just days ago, we are so relieved to already have an update.
The unidentified partial remains of Kandis Fitzpatrick were recovered in Nov 2021 and have finally been confirmed to be the 18 year old who went missing in 2008.
The man responsible, Adam Strong, has already been sentenced to 1st degree murder for 18-year-old, Rori Hache and manslaughter of Kandis Fitzpatrick in May 2021. Police initially came upon Kandis’s DNA on a hunting knife in his basement suite during the Rori Hache investigation. Kandis’s remains were never found which was why he was sentenced to manslaughter.
2 months after his sentencing, Adam Strong volunteered information to a staff member at the correctional facility regarding the location of Kandis’s remains. He was then interviewed by the homicide team and eventually took them to her burial site and pointed to a grassy area near a tree line in northern Oshowa.
Now if you listened to our episode, you might be thinking “what did he want in return?😒” since we heard his ridiculous requests during his initial interrogation. According to Det.-Sgt. Doris Carriere, Strong received nothing in return, stating “There was no financial compensation or added privilege for him while in custody,” “There was some negotiation, none of which was entertained by police.” So whatever requests he had, he didn’t get them. (Probably another ridiculous Wendy’s order with iced tea and no ice) 🙄
Unfortunately, because Strong has already been convicted, they cannot upgrade the charges to 1st degree murder. But at least Kandis’s family can bring her home and begin their healing.
Adam Strong is currently serving both sentences and won’t be eligible for parole until Dec 29, 2042.
