Group every Scott Harris acquisition by when he acquired it rather than when the production happened, and a pattern shows up immediately.

2022-23 class, including the 2023 draft: roughly +18 WAR
2023-24 class: +1.5 WAR
2024-25 class: +3.0 WAR
2025-26 class: +5.0 WAR

Everything that landed between November 2022 and July 2023 — the Holton and Ibáñez claims, the McKinstry cash pickup, the Vierling trade, the Michael Lorenzen signing, and a draft class headlined by Kevin McGonigle and Max Clark - has produced roughly 18 wins.

The two offseasons that followed combine for 4.5.

Those are the years Detroit went to the playoffs.
The 2024 and 2025 rosters were carried by inherited talent - Skubal, Greene, Torkelson, Keith, Dingler, Olson — plus that opening haul.

The single largest piece of it is McGonigle, taken 37th overall in Harris's first draft. He is at +5.7
WAR in his rookie season, more than any player Harris has traded for or signed has produced in a single Tigers season. He made the All-Star team and collected four hits in his major league debut on Opening Day, the first Tiger to do that since Billy Bean in 1987.

The 2025-26 class is the strongest since that first winter. Whether it holds up is the open question of the next two years.

I never thought he’d leave Utah. If you love college football, you spent years wishing he’d go somewhere with real resources just to see what he’d do with them.

Now he’s at Michigan, Michigan has the resources. Michigan can do everything it needs to do to win football games.
