Government has interdicted Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma over alleged serious misconduct of a public officer.

An interdiction letter Zodiak has seen signed by Secretary to President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba says that, the decision has been made after she (Zamba) received a report of a criminal case that Chizuma is answering over leaked audio.


Chizuma’s interdiction is with full pay, effective yesterday 31 January.

This morning I was working from the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) inside my office at Capital Hill in Lilongwe. When I set up the PDU, my intention was to use it to identify and resolve bottlenecks in government that are delaying the implementation of signature programs and projects of my Administration.

Towards that end, today I summoned officials from the Ministries of Lands and Trade to resolve administrative obstacles to the construction of a $110 million dollar facility for COMESA, which has had zero progress since Malawi was awarded the project in 2013. Through my intervention, land for the project, which will create 2000 jobs, has been allocated, a title deed for the same has been delivered to COMESA and the two responsible ministries have been given timelines to ensure construction begins this year.

Similarly, I summoned officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Greenbelt Authority to make progress on the Nchalo Greenbelt Limited, a project covering 10000 hectares and involving 20000 cotton farmers to be completed by mid next year with an investment of K18 billion. My intervention became necessary to revive the project after 3 years of no production.

We are hosting a two-day Southern African Development Community Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government in Lilongwe, which will be attended by leaders of Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and Acting President of Botswana.

The summit will review progress and the mandate of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (Samim) as we continue to explore sustainable ways of attaining lasting peace in Cabo Delgado.

Peace and stability remain key in our quest as a regional development bloc to fully achieve socio-economic cooperation among all member states.

A plane carrying the body of former First Lady Anne Muluzi has landed at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

First Lady Monica Chakwera is among officials that are at the airport.

The former First Lady died on 28th December 2021 in Kenya after a long battle with Cancer.

Minister of education Agness Nyalonje has said providing quality education to all Malawians is hampered by the increase of population growth citing the figures of children born on this year’s Christmas as an example.
