Government secrecy with regard to data centers is once again an issue in Warrenton, as the town pushed back against its critics on two fronts: its ongoing refusal to divulge emails between town officials discussing the pending Amazon data center and the heavily redacted site plan for the data center on Blackwell Road.

Property slated to become a in Vint Hill has sold for nearly $2 million an acre, eclipsing the previous Fauquier record of about $1 million an acre paid by for its site on Blackwell Road in Warrenton. The latest sale nudges Fauquier property closer to data center land prices being seen in Loudoun and Prince William counties and reflects a new calculation of how much data center companies are willing to pay.

A Warrenton nonprofit, Citizens for Fauquier County, and 10 citizens who have sued to invalidate the town’s approval of an have filed to amend their complaint, saying that a zoning amendment that allowed the data center to go forward was passed in the wrong manner.

The Town of Warrenton, Virginia is considering a plan to buy the Warrenton Horse Show Grounds on East Shirley Avenue for $1.6 million using a portion of the town’s COVID-19 relief money.
