“Heroes unmasked project/campaign”
“Front line workers: Support Heroes Unmasked to ensure our frontline workers and staff at the Hospital are recognized and acknowledged for the significant burden and risk they find themselves in each day. Heroes Unmasked is a photography project, documenting all Hospital staff “unmasked” and providing portrait badges for them to wear on their PPE. A photography exhibition of staff within the Hospital corridors, and the building of a much-needed staff walkway branded with the staff ‘unmasked heroes’ are key elements to ensuring the restoration of ‘lost’ human connection, as well as prioritizing dignity for our staff.”
“Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) already had their Heroes Unmasked campaign going – one that’s set to roll out in four-phases over the next four to six months. It includes an exhibition (launched on International Nurses Day), photography project where staff (unit by unit over a space of three months) are photographed and receive their own Hero Unmasked portrait which will be laminated and pined to their PPE.”
“The campaign will culminate in the building of a much-needed covered staff walkway which will display the artwork and Unmasked photos of all GSH staff. The project, in its essence, focuses on recognizing and honouring healthcare workers. Because of the need to wear masks, nobody sees smiles outside their homes – this project is designed to acknowledge the cumulative toll of hospital staff who are barred from normal human connections with patients, and each other.”
