This post is a departure from our usual content, but for a very imporant reason.

Our friend Connell Green was working construction in 2006 when a support beam fell on his head. There began a slow road to recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury: learning to speak, to walk, and to be the inspirational man he was destined to become. During this time, Connell reached out to a host of organizations in Durham including StepUp Durham, Christchurch Durham, ReCity Network. The Helius Foundation, Wheels4Hope and others. He was a ray of sunshine upon us all, and tirelessly encouraged others facing challenges in their own lives to seek help.

Connell passed away unexpectedly last year and we are raising College Funds for his two grandchildren via a GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/0c61f8e1

If Connell was your friend, if he touched your heart the way he did ours, please contribute and help us to spread the word, so that we might pay back just a fraction of the boundless love that Connell brought to this community.

Thank you for your support, it will mean so much to this wonderful family.

This Thanksgiving, let's engage thoughtfully and reflectively on the history of the holiday. Let's bravely consider the full story, and the goal and importance of building "common memory" as a nation to heal from our collective trauma. We hope that you have reasons today to express gratitude, but that you also won't shy away from truth-telling — those things can be done together, it doesn't have to be a false dichotomy of either/or. Let's JUST talk about Thanksgiving — using the lens of JUSTICE.

22/11/2021

This will prepare you with all of the tools you may need to have conversations about JUSTICE — and any other hot button topics that arise at the Thanksgiving table — with love, patience, and compassion. You can do this!
