Confidential Conversations: Consensual Non-monogamy. Part 1

The chatosphere™ has become saturated with self-proclaimed experts on a variety of topics that pertain to the relationship dynamic between couples. One of the topics frequently bandied about in these spaces is polyamory. Sadly, many of these conversations present mostly one-sided perspectives that leans heavily in favor of male opinions on the matter.
Here on eAfterDark™, we are exploring the topic in a series of conversations with folks who are about that Poly life, but go about it in an ethical, consensual way. Our goal is to present the topic from a variety of perspectives, which is inclusive of more than one gender identity.
In part one of this series, we discuss polyamory, relationship anarchy, and other aspects of this lifestyle with our guests, Kato and Bambie. They share their experiences both together, in their polyamorous relationship, and separately with other partners.
Polyamory in the Black community is by no means a new concept. Perhaps it is being discussed more openly today, and maybe more every day folks are trying out the concept to see if it works for them. However, many famous Black couples today, and some in the past, have been honest about their relationships being open. One famous pair that spoke on their relationship dynamic being unique are the late Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. In their joint autobiography, they share that the decision to have an open marriage helped strengthen their relationship.

Man Talk: Brother to Brother

Man Talk is for all listeners; but our topics, our guests, and our speakers are Black and Global Majority men in particular. This is a space for them to talk, to listen, to learn, to grow and to heal.
In our first episode two Black men discuss their experiences as widowed fathers raising their children alone. The rise in the maternal death rate among Black American women has left many men without their partners and their children without their mothers. We realize that facing the task of raising a child or children alone is something many women face every day. This show is not to make men raising their children alone into heroes. This is to provide support for those men who have had to face this challenge suddenly, with no preparation. We present this show in hopes it will help widowed and unpartnered fathers feel seen and heard. We are providing a space for them to heal and become aware that while facing this prospect may be lonely, they are far from being alone, as sadly, many others have also had to face this situation.

The Mother Wit show on eTalkRadio:

In this episode we discuss "Kinship Adoption" with a mother of two beautiful little girls (who are actually her biological nieces.) She shares how the Foster Care, Child Protective Services, and Family Support system in their state (Colorado) has made numerous mistakes in their case. Mistakes that have caused this mother serious hardships that have left them struggling as a family. This story will have you wondering why and how the system could utterly and unapologetically fail them. Below, are links to possible reasons behind these errors, as mentioned in the introduction to this episode. Also included are links to other cases in other states where the system has so many children existing in very unstable, state provided, woefully inadequate care.
The state may have failed them, but we are sharing a GoFundMe campaign we hope will help them get to more stable ground. We hope by sharing the story of how they have been treated by the state's (lack of) support system, that a means of obtaining what is owed to them by the state of Colorado will come about. Her story is one of many, There are other states where the system is in shambles and failing miserably at protecting and providing for its most vulnerable citizens; its children. If any of our listeners have similar stories they would like to share, please comment, or email us if you prefer, at [email protected].
