🇫🇷⚽ Starting this weekend, Ghanaians can finally watch Ligue 1 on SuperSport - beginning with PSG vs Strasbourg.
This comes just days after Canal+ completed its takeover of MultiChoice (the parent company of DStv). 👀
In October, French media giant Canal+ officially completed its long-anticipated takeover of MultiChoice Group, owners of DStv and SuperSport.
The deal reportedly cost around $3.2 bullion to gain access to secure 94% ownership.
In essence, Canal+ now has full control of Africa’s biggest pay-TV network 💰
So, why did Canal+ buy MultiChoice?
The French company has long sought to expand deeper into Sub-Saharan Africa, where MultiChoice dominates.
By merging, they aim to build a pan-African media powerhouse to rival global streamers like Netflix and Amazon Prime. 🌍📺
Canal+ is one of Europe’s most powerful media networks a French pay-TV giant owned by the Vivendi Group.
In France, they hold exclusive Ligue 1 broadcasting rights, plus major European and global football packages.
They’re basically the French version of SuperSport, but older and richer. 💪🏾

Canal+ already broadcasts Ligue 1 matches across Francophone West Africa.
Countries like Ivory Coast, Senegal, Benin, and Togo have enjoyed French league football for years.
Now, thanks to this takeover, Anglophone Africa is joining the party. 🎉
Barely days after Canal+’s takeover was finalized, the first big shift is here:
