I put the throw blankets in a pile on one side of my bed when I was making it a few days ago. My sweet girl decided it was a bed made in heaven. I haven’t moved the blankets as she is in her “nest” a lot these days with the cold. I hope you are all staying warm and cozy if you are in the path of all these winter storms. Im supposed to be in Dallas on Saturday for a kick off meeting. I hope I get there 😅

After spending a few days with the kids in Vegas I drove this old truck across the country. This is the truck Garrison bought when he came to live in Flagstaff. He drove it until Feb of 2022 and then it became Gabe’s. Gabe is now driving a smaller car that makes more sense in Vegas. Enter the question of what to do with the truck. It’s paid off, and it has more value to me on our new farm than I could get in a trade in. Plus it makes me feel connected to my two boys, especially Garrison.

I actually enjoy the road trip. Put in my podcasts and audio books and see the country.

1) The 2012 Toyota Tundra that I drove (I will be taking the old camper shell off)
2) Green chilies on the pepperoni pizza at the gas station in New Mexico (they put green chilies on everything!)
3) A couple of stops at Buc-cees. IYKYK 😀
4) First Pistachio Latte from the friendliest Starbucks in Conway, AR (it was so good!)
5) Back to the land of biscuits and gravy at the hotel breakfast (pretty much most places east of the Mississippi)

For a long time I have reached for my phone before I even got out of bed. My mind and even emotions were scrambled before my feet even hit the floor. For the last 6 weeks or so I have been spending some time in the morning in prayer and meditation, reading and writing in a small journal. I have found it such a useful practice to calm my mind which tends to be very scattered and “have too many tabs open” . Well I forgot my small journal this trip so have done my writing this morning on my laptop. It definitely wasn’t the same but sitting in this beautiful surrounding made it better.

I stay busy but in EVERY quiet moment you are first and foremost in my thoughts. It’s been a year baby. We miss you so much. I miss you so much.

My friend aprilwraines and her husband had an extra ticket for a fundraiser this weekend in Raleigh. It was fun to dress up and spend the evening out for a good cause. April sang the national anthem to open and then dinner at angusbarn and auction. hbot4heroes has an amazing track record of helping veterans heal. The stories shared of recoveries made was awe inspiring

Maddie and Caleb’s little chicken flock has lived a carefree protected life for 3+ years and now disaster. It’s been so sad. No changes in anything as far as how they are housed etc. We have seen the hawks but the only signs of raccoons was when our corn was shredded last summer.

Now the debate is do we get a new group or wait. We won’t realistically be in our new houses until later this fall. New chicks can be laying eggs by summer. Plus they are wonderful composters. They gobble up a lot of the table scraps .
