((((RADIO ARCHIVE)))) “TINA DELGADO IS ALIVE!” What does it mean? Tune in and find out. The Real Don Steele was most prominent at KHJ in Los Angeles between 1965 and ’73, and later L.A. gigs, but he had the most freedom to be wild and crazy at Portland’s KISN in 1964. The attached photo was taken at the “KISN Corner” where you could drive or walk by and see the D.J. in the big window at 10th & Burnside. This is KOCF’s 10th Birthday month, and today’s classic 1964 recording was featured on the first episode of this show.

((((RADIO ARCHIVE)))) Today, when a radio station changes formats, it happens suddenly with no chance for personalities (if any) to say goodbye. In 1977 during the final days of Philadelphia’s legendary rock & roller, WIBG, they brought in some former personalities and gave all the air talent the freedom to play oldies, old station jingles, and just have fun. Joe Niagara was first in 1956 to drop some Rock & Roll into WIBG’s mix of pop standards, and by ‘57, WIBG was rocking nearly full time. Niagara was brought back to finish off the final minutes 21 years later. This week is an especially fun one.

We're hearing that the Bay Area's own Sylvester Stewart – Sly Stone – has passed away at the age of 82. Sly's records weren't just on the radio, he also played records on the radio, as a disc jockey at San Francisco's KSOL (1450 AM) and Oakland's KDIA (1310 AM).

Sly also produced records for Tom "Big Daddy" Donahue's San Francisco-based Autumn Records, including several early recordings by The Beau Brummels.

You may sample some sounds of Sly Stone on the air at KSOL in 1967 on our website at:

((((RADIO ARCHIVE)))) 1974 was 50 years ago, and this week’s show is a partial countdown of top songs of that year. Given that 100 songs can’t fit into one hour, the first portion of a countdown from New York City’s 99X (WXLO-FM) will air with some songs telescoped that have either received the most airplay over the years, or have not withstood the test of time, as determined by The Archivist. We’ll see how far we get, and it will continue on next week’s show. The top ten will definitely not be covered, some of which belonged on the Turkey Leftovers show a few weeks ago.

((((RADIO ARCHIVE)))) It’s Christmastime 1965 in Beautiful Downtown Burbank, California, and Roger Christian is playing the hits on KBLA. Christian was best known for writing songs for the Beach Boys, and Jan & Dean. LA radio personality Humble Harv Miller is heard in the 2nd segment, and in part 3 The Archivist plays some of his non-traditional Christmas favorites.
