Short protocol or long protocol IVF – what’s the difference? 🤔

If you’re preparing for IVF, you might’ve heard your consultant mention a short cycle or long cycle, but what do these actually mean?

Both involve similar medications and steps, but:

➡️ Long protocol lasts 4–6 weeks and includes hormone suppression
➡️ Short protocol lasts 2–3 weeks, has fewer appointments, and reduces your risk of OHSS

Short protocol IVF is often recommended for:

✔️ Women with PCOS
✔️ Those at risk of OHSS
✔️ Older women
✔️ People who didn’t respond well to long protocol previously

Wondering which one is right for you? Your fertility consultant will recommend the best approach based on your history, but it helps to be informed.

We’ve broken it all down in our latest blog to help you feel more confident going into your next appointment.

🧬 Cervical Screening Awareness Week 🧬

Your cervical health matters, not just for preventing cancer, but for protecting your future fertility too.

While most people can go on to have healthy pregnancies after treatment for abnormal cells, in some cases, extensive procedures like conization or trachelectomy can cause complications such as cervical scarring or narrowing.

But it’s not all bad news: studies show that local treatment of the cervix often doesn’t harm fertility and may even improve pregnancy outcomes in some cases.

Stay on top of your screenings, and talk to your healthcare provider about any concerns.
As an IVFN member you can have access to some of the top fertility specialists in the country, for only £2.49. Sign up today - https://www.theivfnetwork.com/become-a-member/
