LH, LSU laud efforts of Patton in DAB areas
DIMAPUR, AUG 26 (NPN)
August 27, 2025
Lotha Hoho (LH) and Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) have expressed appreciation of the efforts of deputy chief minister, Y. Patton, who also holds border affairs portfolio, in resolving the ongoing eviction issue at the Disputed Area Belt (DAB).
LH: Lotha Hoho, in a release issued by its president Er. Mhondamo Ovung and joint secretary Er. Limhathung Odyuo while appreciating Patton’s efforts said he has been initiating for amicable settlement over the imbroglio caused by eviction carried out by the Assam government without proper coordination with the Nagaland government.
LH said the deputy CM had personally inspected the DAB at Niuland and Ralan areas, on July 24, 2025 followed by another visit on August 23, 2025.
LH said that in all these visits, its representatives accompanied Patton to put in joint efforts to retain the lands that belonged to Nagas and the Lotha tribe since time immemorial.
LH however, expressed concern over the comments made by “some journalists and press clubs” on the “so called unbecoming behavior” of the deputy chief minister at Ralan area while he was inspecting the DAB on August 23, 2025.
The hoho said that, the fact that the deputy CM held a public interaction meeting in the DAB was perhaps not pleasing to some, as per reports of some journalists.
LH said it was not trying to justify any of the contending parties; but want to put the comments and counter comments to rest.
The hoho asserted that none of the parties could claim absolute innocence, adding that “each surely has some lapses on their part.”
LH also stated that the journalists/reporters were also expected to report factual events and actual statements, without making critical comments of their own. LH also said that “those feeding the reporters” were also expected to be authentic and diplomatic.
It urged all concerned to stop blaming each other and stop publishing “self justifications.”
LH has instead urged all responsible to put in concerted joint efforts to settle the boundary dispute amicably and as per historical evidences and records.
LSU: Meanwhile, Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) acknowledged the deputy chief minister Y Patton’s “meritorious efforts” in safeguarding Naga ancestral land.
In a press release, LSU president Lirhonthung E Kithan and education & statistical secretary Nyanthung M Khuvung urged the deputy chief minister and the state government to assess and address the issue in the best interest of the state.
LSU also affirmed solidarity and unwavering support in protecting Naga homeland.
LSU has, also clarified that the “unfortunate incident” of August 23 should not be construed as an attack on the media in general, but rather as “an expression of frustration over misinformation propagated by a particular individual.”
LSU stated that on August 21, a local TV news reporter accused the deputy chief minister and state government officials of not visiting the eviction affected areas. LSU said that “this unfounded report” deeply disappointed and provoked the deputy CM, that led to the remarks made on August 23.
LSU expressed the view that slandering the deputy chief minister’s efforts and integrity was “defamatory in nature” and would not be tolerated.
LSU also dubbed as “erroneous” certain critical views regarding deputy chief minister’s handling of the ongoing Nagaland-Assam border tension in Ralan area.
LSU stated that deputy chief minister “indeed” visited the affected area twice, accompanied by MLAs—Achumbemo Kikon and Y. Mhombemo Humtsoe—district administration, and police department.
During those visits, LSU said interaction sessions were conducted to address public grievances, which was attended LSU members.
LSU said its president along with office bearers accompanied and witnessed the deputy chief minister visit to the DAB areas on many occasions.
LSU said after the visit by Dy. CM, a company of NAP (IR) was deployed in Ralan Area and that since then the deputy chief minister had been coordinating with various authorities, including CSOs, village councils, district administration, border magistrate, and police departments.
LSU said Patton recently held a joint coordination meeting with the Assam Forest minister and successfully appealed for the dismantling of stone pillars and fencing besides halting plantation drive, which was complied with by Assam Forest department.
LSU appreciated the efforts and contribution by media fraternity over the issue but also expressed disappointment over “statements made without proper facts and verification”, which it said “may be provoking and misleading.”(News credit: Nagaland Post)
