Hi this is a call to.any.filmmakers who were due to have their film screened at the Armadillo Cafe Cinema in Yate, South Glos on.19th June. Seems this fun.group are taking credit for your screenings being cancelled. Cine Bijou promotes independent film from around the world and.often features diaspora & immigrant stories. We are a bristol based platform. Get in touch with us to arrange a review of your film and we'll feature you as guests on the podcast where you can talk about your project.

Update: South Gloucestershire Council & Yate Town Council Refugee "Film Festival"

South Gloucestershire Council recently posted (see screenshot above) about a Refugee Film Festival they're running in partnership with Yate Town Council at the Armadillo in Yate this week (16th, 18th & 19th June).

Yate Town Council is now claiming no such event is happening — despite the clear partnership announced by South Gloucestershire Council. They’ve also suggested that any protest would disrupt normal youth centre sessions. In our view, keeping children well away from this venue during the event is actually the responsible thing to do.

South Gloucestershire Council has since removed their original post advertising the event after members of the public raised serious concerns with counter-terrorism about the nature of the films being screened.

We are calling on South Gloucestershire Council to do the right thing and issue a public statement confirming that this event has been cancelled and that they will not be showing these films in our community.

British communities have had enough of councils and government bodies pushing this type of content while ignoring the very real risks and pressures being placed on local people. We expect our local authorities to put the safety and concerns of residents first.

South Gloucestershire Council — cancel the event publicly and apologise for attempting to host it in the first place.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of the brilliant French-Iranian author and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi at the age of 56. Her legendary autobiographical graphic novel 'Persepolis' which was turned into an Oscar-nominated film. It served as a powerful lens into the dislocations of the Islamic Revolution and the emotional reality of living between two worlds. She gave the global public a nuanced, deeply human understanding of Iran that history books alone could never capture. Because her impact on modern Persian storytelling is so profound, we have dedicated a foundational chapter in our e-book, Cine Persia: Voices of Iranian Cinema, will analyzing the historical and cinematic weight of 'Persepolis'.

We’ve updated the name of this page to reflect our new mission. Cine Bijou Presents is a curated space for original published digital and printed books. The works shine a spotlight on offbeat indie film history, and deep cinematic exploration.

Expect more than just reviews. We’re diving into the "cinephile curiosities" ranging from the legacy of cult studios to the unsung auteurs of world cinema.
