จากที่ชุมนุมเรียกร้องการฟื้นฟูสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์หลายครั้งในเนปาล ซึ่งเหล่าผู้สนับสนุนสถาบันเรียกร้องให้มีการนำระบอบเดิมกลับมาในฐานะองค์ผู้พิทักษ์แห่งชาติฮินดู ทั้งนี้ได้มีการตั้งประเด็นหารือถึงอนาคตหากมีการฟื้นฟูสถาบันกษัตริย์ขึ้นมาอีกครั้ง อาจมีทางเลือกที่ดีกว่าสำหรับการเริ่มยุคใหม่หรือไม่
แม้จะยังมีความเป็นไปได้น้อยมากที่จะนำพาประเทศกลับไปสู่ระบอบเดิม เนื่องจากเกือบทุกพรรคการเมืองยังคงยึดมั่นในระบอบสาธารณรัฐ ระบอบสหพันธรัฐ และลัทธิฆราวาส ราม ประสาท บาซิยาล ผู้อำนวยการคณะกรรมการว่าด้วยความมั่นคงของพลเรือน ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในผู้สนับสนุนสถาบันกษัตริย์ ได้ให้สัมภาษณ์กับสื่อท้องถิ่นว่า “รัฐธรรมนูญฉบับนี้เข้ามา และก็จะไปสักวันเช่นกัน ในฐานะที่ทรงเป็นองค์ผู้พิทักษ์ชาติฮินดู เราทำทุกอย่างเพื่อสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์”
ทั้งนี้ ความเป็นไปได้น้อยในการฟื้นฟูระบอบกษัตริย์ เนื่องจากกลัวการซ้ำรอยเดิมในอดีต เมื่อครั้งสมเด็จพระราชาธิบดีชญาเนนทระ ทรงปกครองประเทศด้วยพระราชอำนาจเบ็ดเสร็จ ทำให้เกิดกระแสต่อต้านพระองค์มากขึ้น ประกอบกับภาพลักษณ์อันเหลวแหลกของเจ้าฟ้าชายพารัส มกุฎราชกุมาร ซึ่งขณะนี้มีพระชนมายุ 53 พรรษา เป็นที่รู้จักกันดีในเรื่องอื้อฉาวต่างๆ รวมทั้งคดีความต่างๆตั้งแต่ยังคงเป็นพระรัชทายาท
เจ้าฟ้าชายมกุฎราชกุมาร ทรงถูกเป็นข่าวฉาวครั้งแรกจากการขับรถขณะมึนเมา เป็นเหตุให้นักร้องดังถูกรถชนเสียชีวิตในปี 2000 แม้ระบอบกษัตริย์จะถูกล้มเลิกไปแล้ว ยังตกเป็นจำเลยในคดีความไม่หยุดหย่อน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเมื่อครั้งทรงถูกจับในคดียาเสพติดในประเทศไทยถึงสองครั้ง อย่างไรก็ดี ในช่วงปี 2020 เป็นต้นมา ทรงสงบเสงี่ยมมากขึ้น แม้จะยังทรงแอคทีฟในชีวิตส่วนพระองค์ เช่นการทรงรับรถบิ๊กไบค์ร่วมกับคาราวานทั่วประเทศ ตลอดจนทรงปฏิบัติพระราชกิจในฐานะพระบรมวงศ์เป็นครั้งคราว
อย่างไรก็ตาม แม้จะทรงประพฤติพระองค์ดีขึ้นแล้ว หากแต่เจ้าฟ้าชายพารัส ไม่อาจเป็นตัวเลือกที่ดีในการสืบสันตติวงศ์อีกต่อไป บาซิยาลได้กล่าวว่า สถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์จะต้องกลับมาในฐานะผู้พิทักษ์แห่งชาติอีกครั้ง แต่ก็มิได้หมายความว่า สมเด็จพระราชาธิบดีชญาเนนทระ จะต้องกลับมาเป็นกษัตริย์อีกครั้งเสมอไป หากทรงเล็งเห็นตัวเลือกที่ดีกว่าเพื่อเริ่มยุคใหม่
เมื่อครั้งการชุมนุมต่อต้านพระมหากษัตริย์ในปี 2007 ได้เคยมีแนวคิดกราบทูลเชิญ "นวยุวราช" ขึ้นมาสืบราชสมบัติต่อหลังจากความนิยมของสมเด็จพระราชาธิบดีชญาเนนทระลดลง นายกรัฐมนตรีคิริชา ประสาท โกอิราลา ได้เสนอแนวคิดและความเป็นไปได้ที่จะกราบทูลเชิญ เจ้าชายหฤทเยนทระ พระโอรสพระองค์เดียวในเจ้าฟ้าชายพารัส ซึ่งขณะนั้นมีพระชันษาเพียง 5 ปี ขึ้นสืบราชย์แทน หากแต่แผนได้ถูกปฏิเสธจากทั้งสมเด็จพระราชาธิบดีเอง และฝ่ายลัทธิเหมาด้วย
บาซิยาลกล่าวว่า เจ้าฟ้าชายพารัส ได้เคยมีพระราชดำรัสว่า จะไม่ทรงขอขึ้นสืบราชย์หากโอกาสนั้นมาถึง จึงถือเป็นโอกาสอันดีที่สมเด็จพระราชาธิบดี จะทรงเลือกพระราชนัดดาขึ้นเป็นผู้สืบสันตติวงศ์ต่อจากพระองค์ ซึ่งผู้สนับสนุนจำนวนไม่น้อยก็เห็นพ้องต้องกัน หากทุกฝ่ายพร้อมหารือเพื่อหาผลลัพธ์ร่วมกันได้ในอนาคต อย่างไรก็ตาม ผู้ใกล้ชิดอดีตพระมหากษัตริย์ก็ยังไม่มีความเห็นใดๆในการนี้
สำหรับเจ้าชายหฤทเยนทระ ปัจจุบันพระชันษา 22 ปี เป็นพระโอรสพระองค์เดียวในเจ้าฟ้าชายพารัส มกุฎราชกุมาร ทรงอยู่ในลำดับที่ 2 ของการสืบราชสันตติวงศ์ ทรงดำรงพระอิสริยยศที่ "นวยุวราช" ในฐานะพระรัชทายาทรอง กระทั่งการสิ้นสุดระบอบสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์ในปี 2008

As there have been demonstrations from time to time in Nepal for the restoration of the Hindu nation and the monarchy. The pro-monarchist movements said that it is time to bring the monarchy back as guardians of the Hindu nation. However, it is also a time to consider any alternatives for a new possible era.
As almost all the parties in power seem committed to republicanism, federalism, and secularism. Therefore, very few see the possibility of restoring the monarchy. Ram Prasad Basyal, coordinator of the main committee of the civic felicitation said, “As this constitution came, so it will go. As guardians of the Hindu nation, we are working for the monarchy.”
It is also heard that there is no possibility of restoration due to the ‘autocratic steps’ of King Gyanendra Shah when he was King and the unpopularity it caused, as well as the image of his son Crown Prince Paras. The Crown Prince, now 53 years old, is known for having scandals and criminal charges since he was still an heir to the throne.
Crown Prince Paras was alleged to have run over and killed a popular singer in 2000. Even after the monarchy was abolished, he was still reported in criminal charges, particularly when was arrested on drugs charges in Thailand twice. However, in early 2020s, the ex-Crown Prince became gradually calm but is still active on his personal life. He enjoys riding with his motorbike convoy around the country. He is occasionally invited to perform duties on behalf of his father and the Royal Family.
Nevertheless, Paras might not be a good choice to be a successor anymore. Basyal stated that “The monarchy has to come as a guardian, it does not mean that Gyanendra Shah has to become the king. He is ready to give an alternative.”
Some Nepalis once talked about 'The Baby King' after the movements against the Monarchy occurred following the declined popularity of King Gyanendra in 2007. The then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala had also pointed out that possibility to pass the throne to The Crown Prince’s only son, Prince Hridayendra who was only 5 years old at the time. It is said that The King rejected such a proposal at that time. The Maoists also rejected this plan.
According to Basyal, the former King is ready to make his grandson King after his own son once said that he would not want to become King even if the opportunity arises. Basyal said that if the parties are ready, it will be a matter for the round table conference or some such meetings to decide. Some supporters of the monarchy have previously said that Hridayendra Shah could be put forward as King. However, those close to the former King have not given any indication about this.
Prince Hridayendra, now 22 years old, is the only son of Crown Prince Paras. He was the second in line to Nepal's royal throne. Until the abolition of the monarchy in 2008 he was known in Nepal by the title Nava Yuvaraj.
