First for Best New Mural. This one I’m really blown away by. 5 years ago I would’ve laughed at the idea of calling myself an artist. I found art when I needed it most and it’s taken a huge role in my life ever since. Frank is pretty dang big, but he isn’t even finished yet and y’all like him this much?! Can’t wait for everyone to see him and all his friends when I finish my biggest mural yet this Spring. 👀

First for Most Luscious Radio Voice. I’m getting the little wooden plaque for this one and it’ll be on my mantle for a long time. An accolade I never even considered was a thing until recently. I know it’s silly, but I’m pretty stoked to win something ridiculous like this. 😂

This is the first time that I’ve really made a series of paintings based around the same idea before. One of the things I’ve struggled with my art so far has been putting too much pressure on myself to make what I think other people will like. I’ve avoided allowing myself to just create whatever I’m feeling like because I don’t want people to think everything I do is repetitive. Then I got to thinking about it more and realized that a lot of my favorite artists tend to make a lot of pieces that are similar sometimes and I always enjoy it. I like seeing different versions of a character that I like from an artist’s mind. Since I have never made any prints of any of my works, I feel this is a kinda cool way to reproduce my work without it being the same. I hope you like him. 🤙

This start to the year has been really hard for a lot of people including myself. Art continues to bring me inner peace, at least temporarily. That alone makes it my favorite thing to do right now.
•art and myself are in the early phases of planning an art show specifically using skateboards for canvases. I get tons of these left at my shop all the time. I personally have never enjoyed painting traditional canvases. Maybe at some point in my art journey I’ll feel differently, but as of now I enjoy painting on whatever I see that brings me inspiration. If you would live in the Eau Claire area and would like to participate in a skateboard art show please hit me up. Alone once more. Not much to say other than I’m sorry to everyone that has experienced a less than ideal version of me over the last while. I’ve been really struggling with my mental health and haven’t felt like myself in some time. It’s time for me to turn the page and start waking up feeling at peace again.
•
I’ll be traveling a lot and spending my time diving into my creative endeavors until at least the end of February which will be a great place to start fresh. I’ll try to be a better friend to all of you as I get back to a better headspace.
•
I’ve had 2 friends recently take their own lives. Please reach out to your friends and check in with them, especially if you haven’t seen or heard from them in a while. If something feels off, there is a good chance it is. If someone seems like they aren’t themselves, that’s a sign that something is wrong. Winter is a tough time for a lot of us for various reasons. Life is tough sometimes, but it’s easier when we lift each other up.

My friend Trenity reached out to me a little while ago and asked if I would paint a board for his home. He has started collecting original works from friends and wanted to add one of mine to his collection. He already had the board and told me to paint whatever I wanted on it.

Daniel Donato is a guitarist and singer/songwriter originally from Nashville, Tennessee. Daniel started busking at the age of 14 and grew his skills considerably when he started playing in the famous Don Kelly band while still in high school. At first his dream was to become a studio musician and play on every major country record, but instead he felt the need to start creating his own music. Still only 27 years old Daniel has become a force to be reckoned with in the industry. His band "Cosmic Country" is really something you need to see in person to fully understand how special they are. Thankfully they have been on tour after tour almost non stop for some time with no end in sight so you have plenty of chances to see them yourself. In this episode we discuss how the crew came together, how to carve your own path, ways to slow down, and why it's all worth it.

I met Daniel backstage at this past summer. We didn’t have time to record an interview that night, but we kept in contact and finally made it happen when he was performing in Madison, WI. We set up and recorded backstage in a small green room during sound check before a show so we have some extra background ambiance. One thing I’ve finally realized is that I’m supposed to create art and not question whether or not I’m any good at it. I like what I make, and that’s good enough. The Children’s Museum of Eau Claire is one of the absolute coolest and most fun places I’ve ever brought my own children to. If you live in Eau Claire you must have seen their new building that has been under construction on Barstow Street. It’s jaw dropping to say the least, and that’s just from the outside. The inside is gunna be a mind blowing experience for kids in the Chippewa Valley. I was able to sit with the chief operating officer Mandy Runge and her daughter at their current home of Play Space Eau Claire about the history of the children’s museum, what they bring to the area, what to expect from their new home, and much more. You may have noticed that I’ve been somewhat quiet on here for a little while. It’s because at 9:45pm on Sunday October 2nd I got the green light from and the city of Altoona to begin work on one of the Chippewa Valley’s biggest murals to date. All month long I have been under a bridge painting a not so little guy named “Frank”. I’m only about 1/3rd of the way done with the wall so far, but my plan was to paint Frank start to finish before the weather turned too cold. I’ll be coming back to it to paint the rest of the wall in the Spring when it warms back up with more bright colors and monsters that are yet to be named.

Thank you for giving me the honor of having my art on the front page of the newspaper yesterday. This kind of public recognition means a lot to me.
