The Conjuring : Last Rites - Some might find this latest (and sadly, last) entry a little slow, but for me the pacing was fine. A film that feels like a “thank for and goodbye” to the fans and an end to one of my favorite franchises. So, thank you to and everyone who has been part of this amazing series

Silent Hill - it’s been a long time since I watched these. There’s some definite good ideas in there, along with a healthy dose of nostalgia too!!

Birds of Prey - After the unexpected success of Su***de Squad and especially the emergence of Harley Quinn as a popular character, it was only a matter of time before she got a solo movie and this one is exactly what a Harley Quinn movie should be. Loud, stupid and a whole lot of fun.

This weeks highlights!

Jaws - I had the absolute privilege to see this at my local cinema for its 50th anniversary re-release. There’s genuinely nothing I’d change about this as I love every single second of it

Star Wars episode 3 : Revenge of the Sith - This is number 3 on my list of Star Wars films. I have always found it incredibly sad, to see Anakin finally give in to the dark side, order 66 and Yoda give up on everything. The only thing that lets this film down is the comedy “noooooo” at the end.

Shazam - I’d only seen this once before and had forgotten just how much fun it is! A lesser known (for me) superhero who’s alter ego is a 14 year old schoolboy. Great entertainment from start to finish!

Nosferatu - hauntingly beautiful. Eggers absolutely nails this take on the Dracula story. Easily one of the best things I’ve seen in recent times.

Braveheart - As historically inaccurate as you could wish for, but still a brilliant film of revenge and rebellion.

Star Wars episode 2 - Attack of the Clones - by far the weakest entry in the Star Wars series, but the one I’ve always had a soft spot for. I couldn’t tell you why

Aquaman - I’d genuinely forgotten how good this one is and it’s a solid reminder that DC could actually make good films!

Gladiator - nothing to say that hasn’t been said a million times about this film. Absolutely fantastic!

The Justice League- fun at times, an absolute mess at others. Tempted to give it some slack as there were a lot of problems around it when it was being made, none of which were ever going to help.

Megan 2.0 - The first was a love letter to things like Childs Play, with a little social commentary on the risks of AI. I was relieved they didn’t try to make the first film again and went in a totally different direction and I’ll admit I had a blast watching it! Stupid, over the top fun and a lot better than I thought it would be!

This weeks highlights!

Wonder Woman - Where the DCEU peaked. A film that would easily stand next to anything Marvel were doing at the time. and Chris Pine look like they’re having an absolute blast and the feel of the film just flows so easily, helped in no small part by the support cast.

Million Dollar Baby - What a film. What a film. WHAT A FILM!!!

This weeks highlights!

BvS : Dawn of Justice. A lot of good ideas but poorly executed. A film that came at least 5 films too early. A fun watch, but the DCEU never really recovered.

The Wolfman (2010) : a brilliant remake of a much loved classic. Del Toro and Hopkins bounce off each other brilliantly as estranged father and son, supported brilliantly by the always amazing Emily Blunt.

Jurassic World Rebirth : Nothing new at all, an island that nobody should go to, full of dinosaurs and almost certain death. Johansson clearly is having an absolute blast along with everyone else. It’s nowhere near as good as the original and the CGI is patchy at times, but it’s still an absolute riot!

Su***de Squad (2016) : Always had a soft spot for this. Brilliantly over the top nonsense that makes absolutely no apologies for being what it is. Robbie and Smith steal the show with Smiths Deadshot adding some unexpected depth and emotion to the film

The highlights from this week!

Man Of Steel - Much more enjoyable than I remember it being, maybe watching it with all the noise and hype and negativity around it played a part, but I had a great time watching it

Superman 2025 - Over the top, silly and a whole load of fun!

Fantastic Four : First Steps - A welcome return to form for the MCU, I was a little cautious going into this one, but it was brilliant! The only complaint I’d have is I’d have liked to have seen more of Galactus doing what Galactus does.
