Vueling is set to become IAG’s first Boeing 737 MAX operator✈️🇪🇸

International Airlines Group (IAG) has announced that its Spanish low-cost airline, Vueling, will receive at least 25 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 and 25 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, making it the first carrier within the group to operate the 737 MAX. Over time, Vueling plans to retire its remaining Airbus aircraft to simplify and streamline its fleet. Since its founding in 2004, the airline has operated exclusively with Airbus jets, mainly from the A320 family. Its current fleet includes 130 aircraft, 20 of which are the newer A320neo/A321neo models.

A Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER, registered TC-LKF, operating flight TK2430 from Istanbul (IST) to Antalya (AYT), suffered a hydraulic failure that led to a fire in the main landing gear shortly after landing at Antalya Airport on July 29, 2025.

According to an official statement, an air traffic controller spotted smoke coming from the aircraft’s landing gear and quickly alerted the flight crew and emergency response teams.

All 247 passengers and 13 crew members were evacuated on the taxiway, and no injuries were reported. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the hydraulic failure.

Russian carrier Nordwind Airlines has launched first commercial flight between Moscow and North Korea after 77 years🇷🇺🇰🇵

Flight N46107, served by a Boeing 777-200ER accommodating 393 passengers, touched down at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport (FNJ) at around 9:30 a.m. local time after an over eight-hour red-eye.

The launch of this route follows Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s recent visit to North Korea’s new Wonsan-Kalma beach resort, where he met with Kim Jong Un and pledged to promote Russian tourism to the country.

Initially, Nordwind Airlines will operate flights to the North Korean capital once a month; however, it remains open to increasing frequency if demand is favourable.

The Moscow-Pyongyang route becomes the second direct air link between the two countries. North Korea’s flag carrier, Air Koryo, also operates regular nonstop flights between Pyongyang and Russia’s eastern port city Vladivostok.

Turkish Airlines flight TK79 from Istanbul (IST) to San Francisco (SFO) diverted to Chicago (ORD) after a passenger died in-flight on July 13. Amid landing at O’ Hare International Airport, the body was said to have been removed from the plane. Usually, local authorities are notified and the remains are processed through official channels - which would in this case be the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. But according to the office, there’s no record of a body being received from that flight.
Spokesperson Natalia Derevyanny said the office was “not notified,” making it difficult to track the current whereabouts of the body.

According to The New York Post, Turkish Airlines station manager Ertugrul Gulsen said the remains were placed on a separate flight to San Francisco but gave no further details on the case.

Jet2 goes all-in on the Airbus A321neo with latest order🇬🇧✈️

UK leisure airline Jet2 has firmed up orders for an additional 36 Airbus A321neos, bringing its total commitment to 146 aircraft of the type. The latest order, finalized on July 11, 2025, extends the carrier’s delivery schedule through to 2035.

Jet2 initially ordered 36 A321neos in 2021, increasing the total to 57 by the end of that year. With this latest move, the airline is advancing its fleet renewal strategy, with the A321neo set to become the backbone of its future operations as it gradually phases out its Boeing 737 fleet over the next decade.

The preliminary report on Air India Flight 171 has been released, revealing the startling fact that fuel supply to both engines was cut off.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has published its initial findings into the crash of Air India Flight 171, which tragically killed 260 people. The flight, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (registration VT-ANB), was en route from Ahmedabad, India, to London Gatwick (LGW) when it crashed on June 12, 2025. The incident marks the first hull loss involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, prompting serious concerns and widespread speculation.

Here are 8 key takeaways from the 15-page preliminary report revealed on July 11, 2025:

1. The fuel control switches for both engines shifted from RUN to CUTOFF three seconds after takeoff, within one second of each other.

2. The Ram Air Turbine (RAT), deployed immediately after takeoff.

3. Cockpit voice recordings captured one pilot asking, “Why did you cut off?” The other pilot responded, “I did not do so.”

4. Flight data indicates an automatic relight was attempted. Engine 1 restarted successfully, but Engine 2 failed to recover despite several attempts.

5. At 08:09:05 UTC, a mayday call was transmitted just seconds before the aircraft crashed into buildings beyond the airport perimeter.

6. The flap and landing gear levers were set accordingly. Although the thrust levers were at takeoff power during flight, they were found at idle post-impact, confirming that fuel cutoff occurred mid-flight.

7. The aircraft held valid airworthiness certification. It had a few non-critical maintenance items (MELs) in categories C and D, but none were related to the fuel control system.

8. Boeing had previously issued a non-mandatory advisory regarding concerns over the fuel control switch lock mechanism. Air India had not carried out the optional inspections. However, the aircraft had undergone throttle module replacements in 2019 and 2023.
