We're actually just getting introduced to this artist with this magazine cover, but if you have 2 minutes to be amazed, head over to Mr. Nelson's account and look at some of the other pieces he's done for the New Yorker, Amtrak, National Geographic, the US Postal Services (dude, he did the artwork for both the Marvin Gaye stamp and the Ralph Ellison stamp), and even the Miami Book Fair. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

A lot of people think slaves were freed with the Emancipation Proclamation. But that wasn't the case with southern states. Juneteenth actually celebrates the day the last enslaved African Americans were (finally) SET free... some two years after they were legally free. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

"It was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years AFTER President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops TO ENFORCE the new Executive Order. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Congrats to Kira... who's our fave little helper. As a member of the class of 2020, she is one of the millions of kids who had to pick up her diploma in the school drive-thru. She's on her way to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in GA to study Ag Education... 🚜 ⛏️ 🌾⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
