๐ŸŽ China had a big influence on early Japanese culture.

During the Edo period, Japan had a rigorous isolationist policy, closing its borders to any external contacts. This resulted in the development of a distinct Japanese culture. Japan reversed this trend when the Edo era ended in 1868, embracing cultural practices from all around the world and combining them with what had been developed during the Edo era. Western culture has affected many aspects o

f Japanese.

๐ŸŽ The culture and traditions of Japan are both intricate and beautiful. This blog will discuss some of the things to keep in mind when visiting or doing business in Japan. Japan is a Pacific Ocean island nation off the coast of mainland Asia, pronounced "Nippon" or "Nihon" in Japanese. There are roughly 6,900 islands in the archipelago. Honshu, Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Kyushu, which make up 97 percent of the country, are the most prominent and populous islands. There are 47 prefectures on these islands, with a combined population of 127 million people (11th in the world). Although 73 percent of the country is mountainous, the majority of the population lives around the coasts, making it one of the world's most densely populated countries.

๐ŸŽ The Japanese consume mostly fish throughout the country. Japan is the world's largest fish importer, swallowing over 12% of all fish captured worldwide. Sushi, a dish made with fresh fish, seaweed, and gently seasoned rice, is possibly the most well-known Japanese food. Beef, fowl, and pork are also staples of the Japanese cuisine.

๐ŸŽ The national language is Japanese, which is also the country's predominant spoken language. The first Japanese text, the "Kojiki," was composed in the early eighth century and was mostly written in ancient Chinese characters. Between 1603 and 1868, the Edo period saw the birth of modern Japanese culture.

๐ŸŽ There are three alphabets in modern Japanese:

Kanji is a Japanese writing system (logographic Chinese characters)
Hiragana is a type of Japanese writing (a phonetic Japanese alphabet)
Katakana is a Japanese writing system (a phonetic alphabet used for foreign words)
Katakana's inception and broad use exemplifies Japan's recent embrace of Western cultures, ideas, and language.

10 TIPS TO SAVE A LOT OF MONEY WHILE TRAVELING IN JAPAN ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต SAVE MONEY SO YOU CAN BRING MORE JAPANESE SOURVENIR HOME:

1. Getting a JR Pass: The JR Pass gives you unlimited access to all Japan Rail National trains, JR bus services, ferry services, and airport transfers. A 7-day JR Pass only costs ยฅ29.650 which is actually cheaper than a return ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto on a Shinkansen bullet train (including airport transfer). If you visit multiple cities during your trip, the JR Pass is a must!

You can get the Pass here:

2. Getting a Travel SIM/ Pocket Wifi with unlimited data: Having internet access on your devices in a must while traveling in Japan, so you can use vital apps like Google Maps, Google Translate... or simply to connect with your family! While your regular phone service may offer roaming internet, it is often absurdly expensive. Therefore, getting a dedicated Travel SIM / Pocket Wifi with unlimited data will save a ton of money and, more importantly, you can travel without worries.

We highly recommend SIM Card / Pocket WiFi from Sakura Mobile Japan. They offer full English support and you can conveniently pick it up at the airport or upon checking in at your hotel in Japan!

You can get yours here:

3. Use public transportation: Japan has an extensive and efficient public transportation system. Utilize trains, buses, and subways instead of taxis or rental cars to save on transportation costs. You will also be able to experience the convenience and efficiency of Japan's public transit systems.

To streamline your public transportation experience, you can get a PassMo or Suica card at any train station with a fee of only 500 Yen. With a PassMo or Suica card in hand, you can effortlessly navigate the public transportation network without the hassle of carrying cash or purchasing individual tickets.

4. Stay in budget accommodations: Opt for budget-friendly options such as hostels, guesthouses, or capsule hotels. These accommodations provide affordable prices without compromising on comfort. Dorm beds in guesthouses only cost around 3000 Yen (~20 USD), A personal capsule bed costs only around 4000 Yen (~28 USD).

5. Take advantage of convenience stores: Convenience stores like 7-Eleven and Lawson offer a wide range of affordable food options, including ready-to-eat meals, snacks, and drinks. You can find them at almost everywhere in Japan. Use Google Maps to find the nearest available!

6. Visit free attractions: Japan has numerous free attractions, such as parks, temples, and gardens. Take advantage of these to enjoy the cultural and natural beauty of the country without spending money. Utilize Google Maps as it can tell you the admission fee of almost all locations!

7. Purchase discounted tickets: Look for discounted tickets or passes for attractions, museums, and theme parks. Websites like Klook or Voyagin often offer deals and promotions.

8. Travel during the shoulder season: Consider visiting Japan during the shoulder seasons, which are the periods just before or after the peak tourist season. Prices for accommodations and flights tend to be lower during these times.

Peak tourist seasons in Japan are usually during the Spring (March to May), Obon holiday (August), Autumn (Late October to early December).

9. Carry a reusable water bottle: Tap water in Japan is safe to drink. Instead of buying bottled water, refill your reusable bottle at water fountains or ask for tap water at restaurants to save money.

10. Eat like locals: Explore local food markets, street stalls, and affordable eateries to experience authentic Japanese cuisine at lower prices compared to fancy restaurants.

We highly recommend using Japan Gourmet Pass to help you find & reserve all the best & most unique restaurants in Japan that locals often go to. You can avoid all the crowded & overpriced tourist spots while having the local experience. You can get the Pass here:
