Portable handwash stations have been set up in 18 slum pockets of Ahmedabad city. A lack of sanitation and awareness in slum areas make the residents more vulnerable to Covid-19. This project was started by the Agakhan Agency for Habitat (AAH) with UNICEF support.
The target is to put 35 stations in slum pockets of five major areas of Ahmedabad. So far, nine hand washing stations have been completed and installed.

Grocery e-commerce platform Bigbasket has been accused of leaking details of around 2 crore users, according to cyber intelligence firm 'Cyble'. They claimed that a hacker has put data allegedly belonging to Bigbasket on sale for around ₹30 lakh. “In the course of our routine dark web monitoring, the research team at Cyble found the database of Big Basket for sale in a cyber crime market, being sold for over $40,000. The leak contains a database portion; with the table name ‘member_member’ The size of the SQL file is about 15 GB, containing close to 20 million user data,” Cyble said in its blog.

The Karnataka government issued guidelines for the sale of green crackers during Deepavali.
Earlier, the government had announced a ban on crackers, but has now allowed “green crackers” only.
Following the 2018 Supreme Court order, these guidelines accommodated the sale of crackers without barium salt. Only traders with licences are allowed to sell “green crackers” from November 7 to 16 at identified locations.

After a blast in a warehouse of a cotton factory on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, 12 workers were killed. One part of the chemical warehouse collapsed following the powerful blast.
A fire official confirmed that the dead included five women, and that nine other people were injured in the incident at an industrial complex.
Witness told reporters that the explosion ripped apart the walls of the building, including a textile facility that operated from the complex.

87% of companies in India plan to hike salaries in 2021 as compared to 71% this year as India Inc bets on a speedy recovery. Among these, more than 60% intend to offer hikes of between 5% and 10%.
In 2020, only 45% companies handed out hikes as per the latest Salary Trends Survey in India by Aon, which analysed data across 1,050 companies from more than 20 industries.
The average salary hike in the ongoing year stood at around 6% — the lowest witnessed in 23 years of the survey.

Kanta Prasad, owner of ‘Baba ka Dhaba’, complained to Delhi Police saying that Wasan convinced the public to donate money. After the video went viral, donations poured in. Wasan had mentioned his mobile number and bank account details as the old man didn't have one, but never revealed the transaction details. The complainant has alleged cheating, mischief, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and misappropriation of funds.

Rajasthan government has issued orders banning the use of firecrackers. The notice was issued by the National Green Tribunal to the Centre, seeking its reply for a ban on crackers in the National Capital Region (NCR) during November. Despite the COVID-19 threa, the industry was busy with last-minute production to meet the demand during Deepavali.
“The industry found it difficult to meet the precautionary measures to resume production. Our workers, too, risked their lives under the pandemic threat to produce the fireworks with the sole objective of keeping the people happy during the festival celebrations,” said Indian Fireworks Manufacturers’ Association (TIFMA) general secretary T. Kannan.

In Bihar, 89% Assembly constituencies have three or more candidates who have declared criminal cases against themselves as reported by the Association for Democratic Reforms found on Monday.
Out of 3,733 candidates, 3722 were analysed their election affidavits and 32% of them had declared criminal cases. The affidavits of the remaining 11 were not available at the time of compiling the report, the ADR said.
ADR founder Jagdeep S. Chhokar said that for the first time, Bihar elections will be held after the Supreme Court directs parties on February 13 to publish the reasons for choosing a candidate with a criminal background. He said the number of “red alert constituencies”, which have three or more contestants with criminal cases pending, is usually around 50%, but it had increased to 89% in the Bihar polls.

On May 2, a 42-year-old Manoj Mishra scolded his 17 year old son. Infuriated by this, the boy hit his father on the head with an iron rod and strangled him with a piece of cloth. Later, his mother helped him burn the body in a forest about five kilometres away to destroy its identity.
After investigation, it was revealed that the boy had watched over 100 episodes of the Hindi TV serial ‘Crime Patrol’ to learn how to destroy any evidence of the murder. He was then arrested on Wednesday.

A 21-year-old woman was shot dead outside her college in Faridabad district by two men. According to reports, both accused were arrested.
The incident took place at 3 pm outside Aggarwal College in Ballabgarh. The woman, identified as Nikita Tomar, was a final year BCom student. She came out after her exam and the two accused tried to push her into a white-coloured car at gunpoint. A recorded ones shows the woman trying to resist their attempts and save herself from being shot. When she refused,they shot her with a pistol and she succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a hospital.

A 16-year-old girl committed su***de reportedly because she couldn’t attend online classes because of no electronic gadgets. Akanksha Tiwari, hanged herself at her house in Krishna Nagar early on Sunday. On Saturday, Akanksha was called by the school authorities for a meeting.
Her father Shivshankar, a tempo driver, said, “During discussion, she informed the teachers that she could not attend online classes as she doesn’t have any medium to study. She also told them that there was just one smart phone in the house which I used.”
