CLAT EXAM- YOUR GATEWAY TO BECOME A LAWYER JUST AFTER 12th

Introduction to CLAT Exam

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programs offered by various National Law Universities (NLUs) and other participating institutions across India. CLAT aims to assess the candidate's aptitude and ability to pursue a legal education and is a crucial step for aspiring law students in India.

Objectives of CLAT Exam

The primary objective of the CLAT exam is to streamline the admission process to undergraduate and postgraduate law programs in India. By conducting a standardized entrance test, CLAT aims to:

1. Provide a fair and transparent mechanism for selecting candidates based on their merit.

2. Facilitate admissions to NLUs and other prestigious law schools in India.

3. Assess candidates' aptitude, reasoning skills, and legal knowledge required for a career in law.

4. Promote diversity and inclusivity by offering equal opportunities to candidates from various backgrounds.

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT Exam

A. Undergraduate (UG) Program

- Candidates must have completed 10+2 or its equivalent examination from a recognized board.
- The minimum aggregate marks required vary from institute to institute, typically ranging from 45% to 50%.
- Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in the same year of the CLAT exam are also eligible to apply.

B. Postgraduate (PG) Program

- Candidates must have completed a LL.B. or its equivalent degree from a recognized university.
- The minimum aggregate marks required may vary depending on the university, generally ranging from 50% to 55%.
- Candidates appearing in the final year of their LL.B. degree or equivalent are also eligible to apply.

Age Criteria

- There is no upper age limit for appearing in the CLAT exam, both for UG and PG programs.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

A. Undergraduate (UG) Program

- Mode of Examination: CLAT UG is conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based).
- Duration: The exam duration is two hours.
- Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Total Marks: CLAT UG is of 120 marks.
- Subjects Covered: The CLAT UG exam consists of questions from the following areas:
- English Language
- Current Affairs, including General Knowledge
- Legal Reasoning
- Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Techniques

B. Postgraduate (PG) Program

- Mode of Examination: CLAT PG is conducted in offline mode.
- Duration: The exam duration is two hours.
- Type of Questions: Objective and Subjective type questions.
- Total Marks: CLAT PG is of 120 marks.
- Subjects Covered: The CLAT PG exam assesses candidates' proficiency in the following areas:
- Constitutional Law
- Jurisprudence
- Other law subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, IPR, etc.

1. Understand the Exam Pattern:
Familiarize yourself with the exam pattern, marking scheme, and syllabus to plan your preparation strategy effectively.
