Have you ever watched somebody lose a fair fight — and then go after your name because of it?

They couldn't beat you in the open. They couldn't out-argue you, out-work you, or out-perform you. So they didn't go home and think it over. They went quiet. And then the whispers started.

That's not a modern problem. That's as old as the Book of Acts.

Stephen was one of the early deacons of the church — full of faith, full of the Holy Ghost, doing great wonders among the people. And the religious leaders came at him. They argued with him in public, face to face, point for point.

They lost.

Acts 6:10 says it plainly: "They were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake."

So what did they do? Did they go home humbled? Did they reconsider their position?

No. They went and found people willing to lie.

Acts 6:11 — "Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God."

Suborned. That's a legal word. It means they secretly bribed and coached false witnesses. This wasn't a spontaneous uprising — this was a coordinated whisper campaign, run by powerful people who couldn't defeat Stephen any other way. They stirred up the people, stirred up the elders, stirred up the scribes, dragged him before the council, and put lying mouths on the stand against him.

They couldn't take him down in the light. So they worked in the dark.

Sound familiar?

Maybe it's a coworker who smiled to your face until you got the promotion they wanted. Maybe it's someone in your own church who started a rumor after you told them the truth. Maybe it's an ex, a former friend, somebody you trusted — who decided that if they couldn't win, they'd just make sure everybody thought less of you.

That is the oldest playbook there is. When you can't defeat the message, you destroy the messenger.

But here's what I want you to see: Stephen never stopped shining. Even standing before a council full of liars, Acts 6:15 says his face looked like the face of an angel. The whisper campaign didn't dim him. The false witnesses didn't shake him. The mob didn't silence him — he preached one of the greatest sermons in the New Testament before they took his life.

And God saw every word of every lie told against him.

He sees the ones told against you too.

✝️ Your Tuesday Night Invitation to Jesus ✝️

Friend, tonight I want to extend a simple, earnest invitation to you — if you've never put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, will you consider it tonight?

Jesus said it plainly in John 14:6: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Not a way. Not one option among many. The way. And tonight, that way is open to you.

Here's the truth we all have to face — every single one of us was born in sin. Romans 3:23 tells us, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." That means me. That means you. There are no exceptions, and there are no good works that can bridge that gap on our own.

And because of that sin, there is a consequence. Hebrews 9:27 says "it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." Romans 6:23 tells us "the wages of sin is death." That's a debt none of us can pay ourselves.

But oh, friend — the story doesn't end there.

Because Jesus loved you so much that He stepped into this broken world and went to a cross for you. He took your sin, your shame, your death sentence upon Himself. He was buried — and on the third day, He rose again, victorious over sin and the grave.

John 3:16 says it so beautifully: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Whosoever. That's not a small word. That means you qualify tonight.

🙏 Will you pray with me?

"Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I know that I cannot save myself. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and that You rose again from the dead. Right now, I turn from my sin and I place my faith and my trust in You alone as my Lord and Savior. Come into my heart, Jesus. Save me tonight. In Your name I pray, Amen."

If you just prayed that prayer and meant it in your heart — welcome to the family of God. Your life will never be the same.

Is-Real.

Have you ever noticed how the name Israel and the phrase "Is Real" look almost identical? And if you're from the South like I am, you know how we draw out our words. Say Israel in a good Southern accent and it practically comes right out — Is. Real.

I don't think that's a coincidence. Because that's exactly what God wanted His people to know.

He said in Exodus 20:2-3 — "I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bo***ge. Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

He was saying: I showed up. I came through. I am REAL — and I should be the only One on your altar.

And in Psalms 46:10 He says it again — "Be still, and know that I am God."

Not think that I am God. Not hope that I am God. Know it.

But even after all of that — after the parting of the Red Sea, after manna falling from heaven, after water from a rock — the Bible tells us the children of Israel "went a wh***ng after other gods." That's not my words, that's God's words straight from Scripture. (Judges 2:17)

And here's what really gets me: they even tried to use the Ark of the Covenant like a good luck charm. They pulled it out when they were in trouble, thinking the presence of God would bail them out — even while their hearts were far from Him.

Sound familiar?

How many times do we treat God like our last resort instead of our first line of defense? We try everything else first — our own strength, our own plans, our own understanding — and then when it all falls apart, then we bring it to God.

But Proverbs 3:5-6 says: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

ALL thy ways. Not the leftover ways. Not the ways where nothing else worked.

Our God is real. He's not a backup plan. He's not a good luck charm. He is the God who brought people out of bo***ge, who parts seas, who keeps promises — and He has the power to bring you through whatever you are facing right now.

🔥 THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE:

Whatever you've been holding onto — the worry, the situation, the thing you keep trying to fix on your own — write it down, pray over it, and intentionally lay it at His feet. Then leave it there. Every time you feel the urge to pick it back up, say out loud: "God, You are real, and I trust You with this."

What are you going through today that you just need to hand over to God and let Him handle it?

"Stand up, stand up for Jesus...

Do you remember that old hymn that calls believers to be bold and unwavering in their faith? Its message is just as important today as it was when it was first written.

In the early days of the church, the apostles faced intense persecution because of their faith in Christ. They were arrested, thrown into prison, beaten, mocked, and even stoned. Yet they refused to be silent. Scripture tells us that they "ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ" daily in the temple and from house to house. When commanded to stop speaking in Jesus' name, Peter boldly declared, "We ought to obey God rather than men."

What a challenge for us today.

We may not face the same physical persecution, but many Christians struggle with fear of rejection, criticism, or being labeled for sharing their faith. Yet God has called us to be a light in a dark world and to proclaim the hope we have in Christ.

Our faith should be so vibrant, our hope so evident, and our love for Jesus so genuine that those around us cannot help but see the difference He has made in our lives. For many people, your life may be the closest thing to a Bible they encounter. Let your words, actions, kindness, and testimony point them to Christ. The Gospel is too good to keep to ourselves.

My challenge to you: This week, intentionally share Jesus with at least one person. Invite someone to church, share your testimony, pray with a friend, post a Scripture verse, or simply tell someone about the hope you have found in Christ. Step out in faith and trust God with the results.

Don't be afraid to stand for Christ. Be bold. Be faithful. Go forth and conquer for the Kingdom of God.

When everything seems out of control, everything is under God's control.

Ephesians 1:21-23 says, "Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all."

No matter what you are going through in your life, God is still in control. We just have to trust Him. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."

The best advice I ever received came from a sermon my preacher gave — he said, "Just trust Jesus and continue to praise Him for what He has already done and what He is going to do!"

James said, be ye doers of the word and not hearers only.

How many of us profess to be born again believers, yet our actions do not align with what the Word of God teaches?

We need to be sure that we are striving to be the best we can be in Jesus. Others are watching — and I don't know about you, but I want people to see that Jesus makes the difference in my life.

That's why Jesus called us to be salt and light everywhere we go. Salt has a purpose — it preserves and flavors. But salt that has lost its savor is good for nothing. It blends right in with the world around it and loses its ability to make a difference. If we look, talk, and live just like the world, we cannot be used to preserve others from the corruption of sin. We must hold onto our savor!

We are called to be set apart. Let's let our lives reflect Jesus in all we do. Others are watching — and you may be the only Bible somebody ever reads.

Today, I want to challenge each of us — myself included — to examine our hearts. Does the way we live match up with the Word of God we claim to believe? Are we practicing what we preach? Let's not just be hearers of the Word, but doers — because a faith that doesn't show up in our daily lives is a faith the world cannot see.

Prayer changes things. It can reach any circumstance, any place, any time — because prayer is only as limited as God is limited, and God has no limits.

I'm reminded of four friends in Scripture who refused to let anything stop them from getting their paralyzed friend to Jesus. They believed with everything in them that if they could just get him in front of Jesus, healing would come. When the crowd blocked the door, they didn't go home. They climbed to the roof, tore it open, and lowered their friend down — right at the feet of Jesus.

And Jesus saw their faith. He looked at that man and said, "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee." Then He proved it by healing him completely.

That's what faith-driven prayer looks like.

You and I both know someone who needs us to be those four friends. We all have people in our lives — sick, hurting, or lost — who need us to carry them before Jesus when they can't get there on their own. Our faith needs to be so strong that we believe: if we bring them before Him, He will move.

Charles Spurgeon said it this way:

"Expect great things beyond all expectations. Your largest hopes shall be exceeded. Hope, and hope, and hope yet again — and each time hope more and more."

In other words, show up expecting God to do a work, and He will meet you there. You can never out-hope or out-ask God. We're not demanding a specific answer — we're trusting that He will answer. And that's enough.

Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make yours shine any brighter.

Yet so many of us spend more energy tearing others down than building them up. The Apostle Paul had a different idea: "Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification." (Romans 15:2, KJV)

That word edification— building up — is an active choice. It costs you something. It means speaking life into someone when they may not be able to speak it for themselves.

So here's a simple question to carry into your day: Did you build somebody up today — or did you spend that energy tearing someone down?

The world has enough people blowing out candles. Be the one who helps others burn brighter.
