BuzzHouse Amsterdam BuzzHouse is an event and studio space for conceptual, practical and entrepreneurial creatives. the praxis of media productions and events.

BuzzHouse is a physical space and creative community where media studies students and alumni of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam are able to gain experience in ‘doing’ media, i.e. At the crossroads of theoretical and practical media studies, students and alumni who are, or want to be, creators and explorers in media and event production can work, learn, meet and connect at

BuzzHouse. At BuzzHouse you can for example attend a seminar and talk by a seasoned media professional, join a workshop or training to improve your practical media skills or create and present your own media production or event. Moreover, you can come to BuzzHouse to study, work or just relax. We are open five days a week from 10am to 5pm (except when our space is reserved for a public or private event). You can find as in the round room at BG5 (Oudezijds Achterburgwal 233-237), in the heart of the humanities campus. The entrance is located at (and then past) coffee bar Prisma, from there you need to go to first floor, where we will warmly welcome you to our inspiring BuzzHouse!

On 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟯𝟬, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲 will be part of 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗖𝗢𝗫, a film series held at 𝗖𝗢𝗫𝟭𝟴, a well-known self-managed cultural center in 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻, Italy. This film series features a curated selection of independent and thought-provoking films, often accompanied by short films, discussions, and social gatherings. 𝗖𝗢𝗫𝟭𝟴 champions experimental, socially engaged cinema with a strong DIY and community-focused ethos – and we are proud to be part of it!

This 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝟯-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 organized by 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 and 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 explores how Carnaval has inspired filmmakers around the world to tell stories of joy, resistance, community, and freedom. From the dazzling parades of 𝗥𝗶𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗼 and 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 to the rhythmic expressions of 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮, 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮, and the 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 and the Prince Carnaval traditions of the 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 and 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺, Carnaval is a global phenomenon, rooted in 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. The inaugural 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 honors the complexity, creativity and resistance of these traditions, while asking urgent questions about culture, identity, and belonging in a changing world.

Join them first on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟯 at 𝟭𝟴.𝟬𝟬 for the 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 of the celebrated Colombian documentary 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁 (Alma del desierto, 2024) in arthouse cinema 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 ! The screening will contain an 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 as well as a screening of the 𝟭𝟬-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝘁 of a documentary 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 is currently working on.
