NCA removes hidden charges on Starlink kit import after complaints by users
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has removed hidden charges previously associated with the import of Starlink internet kits, following numerous complaints from users. The move comes as more South Sudanese turn to Starlink for reliable internet access, especially in remote areas.
Previously, users reported unexpected fees when clearing their devices through DHL after arrival in South Sudan. However, following a review, the NCA clarified that no extra costs would be imposed beyond the standard import process, provided users obtain a “letter of no objection” from the authority.
South Sudanese customers can now order Starlink devices online, with two options: the Standard Kit for $374 and the Starlink Mini for $224, both prices including the first month of service. Starlink has become increasingly popular as local mobile internet providers have raised tariffs, making satellite internet an appealing alternative for households and businesses.
To collect their devices, users still need to visit the NCA to secure the necessary paperwork, but the removal of hidden fees is expected to simplify the process. The NCA’s decision marks a significant step in promoting affordable access to satellite internet services across the country.
