The new episode of Music in the Minor League dropped at midnight! Our guests were John and Rebecca Stoll of Grifters & Shills! They have a new album coming out on Saturday and will be celebrating it with a release show at the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe down in Galveston. We also took some time to discuss how life changes can affect life as an independent musician, especially if you have a second job. Give it a listen here: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/musicintheminorleague/episodes/Episode74-John--Rebecca-Stoll-Grifters--Shills-e3bq7b8 or wherever you listen to podcasts!

We covered a lot in this episode and we hope y'all enjoy learning more about what goes into making an album, keeping a band afloat and just following your muse over following trends in popular music.

As for Brightwire, the lyric video for our next single drops on Friday. This one is for Dashboard Lights. As with the others, the video will premiere at 10am on YouTube and show up here later in the morning. It will be available here: https://youtu.be/WdqfAghfXsI

We'll also be playing at Christmas on Texas Avenue here in Baytown, TX at noon on Saturday. We'll be playing non-Christmas songs, so come get a break from all of that. Then, we'll be heading down to the Old Quarter so Kim can join Grifters & Shills to sing on a song during their set.

Finally, be sure to make plans to come hang at the Big Top Lounge on New Year's Eve as Brightwire joins Shame On Me MTSP (with guest vocals from Kim!!!) and TV Dolls to bring in the new year. Full band set with Ian on bass!

Have a good one, y'all!

Episode 73 of Music in the Minor League is live now! This week we are joined by Nash Daniels.
Nash is a singer-songwriter based in Bryan, TX. We met him back in 2020 when he was performing as Nash Daniels - Kerosene Pipedreams. Last year, he started HowdyFest, which is a music festival on Thanksgiving weekend at The 101 in Bryan. Listen at: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/musicintheminorleague/episodes/Episode-73-Nash-Daniels-Kerosene-Pipedream--HowdyFest-e3b5tih/a-acaimq8 or wherever you listen to podcasts!

This year, the festival is going two days with many great artists from Texas and beyond. We were stoked to sit down and hear about Nash's path in music, what led to starting HowdyFest and what keeps him working on new songs.

To close out the episode, we added our upcoming single Lost in the Static as the closing song. It'll be out as a lyric video on Friday and on streaming the following Friday. We hope you dig it and enjoy our conversation with Nash!

A message from the hosts:

Today, our first single, Still See You Here, from our upcoming album, Choosing Sides of Our Own Demise, has been released on all streaming services EXCEPT Spotify. We are no longer distributing our music to Spotify for a myriad of reasons.

To celebrate this, we are opening up the presale for the new album. If you order the presale, you get an immediate download of Still See You Here and we will commit to shipping your order as soon as it is in stock. So, if the albums come in a month early, all pre-sale folks will get the album a month early. Same with CDs. Also, you will get access to each new single we release as they're released. There presale is available here: https://brightwire.bandcamp.com/album/choosing-sides-of-our-own-demise

Due to support and a ridiculous live schedule, we were able to make the money to press this album without a crowdfunding campaign. We're proud of that, but also down to the bottom of our account, so presales help!

Finally, we used a new pressing plant so records should be in WAY early instead of the delays our prior plant always had. 610 already has stampers in and we should have test presses very soon! We're stoked!

Thanks for your time and hopefully y'all dig what you here! We'll be back with a new episode this coming Wednesday!

Episode 72 of Music in the Minor League dropped today! In an unprecedented turn of events, Rachel and Griffin are back for a second episode in the SAME SEASON!!! Crazy stuff, right?

Well, Rachel and Griffin have combined into a single entity now entitled Rachel & Griffin. If you use 'and' they're just normal people, but if you use the '&', they're a musical powerhouse! They have an album, Live at the Blue Door, coming out in December. They've rebranded everything and working on getting everything moving in a new direction. Listen here: https://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/6bHMI4j51Xb or wherever you find podcasts!

There are lots of interesting tips in here for those looking to do the same thing or just interested how bands decide to change things up. Also, we went WAY off the rails a few times on this episode, so there's lots of fun, as well!

Today, episode 71 of Music in the Minor League dropped! This week, we were joined by Jared McGovern! For nearly two decades Jared McGovern has been a staple of the roots world and a veteran of the highway, now he's set off on a solo journey.

Jared got his start playing bass for Bob Wayne, Wayne Hancock and Jayke Orvis & the Broken Band. In 2014, he formed the high energy hillbilly swing trio The Urban Pioneers. After a short hiatus from the road, Jared is back with a new band and a new batch of swingin' tunes that's sure to get them shins shakin'.

Tonight! Midnight! New Music in the Minor League episode with Jared McGovern! You might recognize him from Jayke Orvis & the Broken Band, Urban Pioneers and/or working the bass for a various other bands on tours over the years. Well, he's got a killer new solo project going and we were stoked to not only talk to Jared, but we'll be premiering a few of his new songs!

This picture was from the Zoom meeting. Not only is Jared the first person to do an interview from the road, he's also the person with more beautiful background we've had for any interview!

Brightwire's first single from the upcoming album will be Still See You Here. Kim started the lyrics for this one about the experience of moving back into her childhood home after her mother died. The odd feelings of emptiness offset by the constant reminders of the person you loved so dearly.

From there, the lyrics grew to include references to more universal feelings in this situation as many folks we know and love have lost spouses, family, lovers, friends and been forced to deal with the same disconnect: Everything around you being a reminder the person you love, yet them not being there anymore.

The single will be released on November 14th on all streaming services EXCEPT Spotify. However, you can listen to it today on this week's episode of Music in the Minor League! Check it out at the following link or wherever you listen to podcasts: https://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/7xh2O2F7EXb

Music in the Minor League returns today with Howell Windham (aka Howell Kuache) of Tekuache and Blackgrass Gospel! Listen to the episode here: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/musicintheminorleague/ or wherever you find podcasts!

Episode info:

Welcome to episode 69 of Music in the Minor League! We're back after a podcast break spent finishing up the album, playing some benefits and preparing for this current month-long break from shows. It was good to get some time away, but we missed talking music with folks.

To celebrate our landmark 69th episode, we could only think of one person to talk to. That person was Howell Windham (aka Howell Kuache) of Houston folk-rock-punk band Tekuache. You may recognize Howell from this prior band, Houston-area legends: Blackgrass Gospel.

We were stoked to have the opportunity to record one of our conversations with Howell and to ask him some personal questions without it being weird since it was for the podcast. We hope you dig it!

Be sure to check out Tekuache and prepare for the Blackgrass Gospel reunion planned for Walk The Earth Music Festival 2026!
