They always say the first one is the most difficult. They say that about all of the first holidays. Something during those days is going to remind you; going to make you happy and going to make you very, very sad. I don’t know what those memories will be today, but there’s no choice but to experience what comes.

Many memories are sure to be shared.

The Toledo Walleye held serve on their home ice in the first two games of the Central Division Final Series, as the scene will shift to Wheeling in the coming week. Brandon Hawkins snapped a second-period deadlock with a controversial goal, and the Walleye followed that up with three more, as recorded a 5-2 win for a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The second round comes to Wheeling's Wesbanco Arena this Tuesday evening.

Karl Crabtree is a resident of the Upper Ohio Valley who has been featured on LEDE News before this evening. He’s 36 years old, married, and is the father of a son and daughter. Crabtree also is an enthusiast of the paranormal, but this is where separation exists between the East Ohio native and others who, say, walk the vast hallways of the former W.Va.

There is no charge for his services for those who choose to contact him.

Despite the clouds, West Liberty University graduates enjoyed a bright celebration as they gathered in-person for Commencement Ceremonies held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11. Three-hundred and ninety-three students are included in the Class of 2022. President W. Franklin Evans presided over the ceremony held in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC)

The exercise took place this afternoon.

The Wheeling Nailers hit a bump in the road on Friday night, as they opened their Central Division Final Series against the Toledo Walleye at Huntington Center. Toledo got rolling quickly with four goals in the first 22 minutes of play, and carried that effort to a 5-1 game one victory. Josh Maniscalco tallied the lone goal for the Nailers on a first-period power play.

Following this evening, the series shifts to Wheeling.

With the weather warming up, it’s definitely time for picnics and picnic-type salads. It’s easy to get into pasta salads and potato salads kick this time of year, but don’t forget your fresh veggie salads like this Mediterranean salad that one of my friends from Connect in the Kitchen made. It’s beautiful, right? We know that we’re eating healthy when our plate has a lot of vibrant colors.

Not only is healthy, but just as tasty.

In memory of their parents, the Calissie family is once again spearheading a Summer Swim Pass program which will provide pool passes for children who could not otherwise afford them. With support from the community and Wheeling’s Department of Parks & Recreation, The Calissie family hopes to provide passes to many kids in need. Last year, the program funded more than 300 pool passes.

Those wishing to make a contribution to the Summer Swim Pass program can do so by sending a check to Wheeling’s Parks & Recreation Department at 1500 Chapline St., Wheeling, W.Va. 26003

West Liberty University nursing students preparing to graduate this Saturday took part in the annual pinning ceremony today to mark their admission into the professional field of nursing. The WLU Nursing Pinning Ceremony took place at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 5 in Kelly Theatre. Twenty-four students participated. Department Chair Dr. Rose Kutlenios, welcomed graduates and guests. President Dr. W.

Commencement is set for tomorrow.

Wheeling finished the regular season with a winning record against Toledo.

West Liberty University’s Student Government Association (SGA) leaders were sworn in at the annual Honors Convocation held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Executive Director of Housing and Student Life Marcella Snyder administered the oaths of office at the end of the convocation to incoming President Sydney Burkle and Vice President Cody Dixon-Rushman.

The association governs itself on three overarching principles: service, leadership and integrity.

The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced their schedule for the Central Division Final Round of the 2022 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Nailers will face the Toledo Walleye in a best-of-seven series, which begins on Friday night at Huntington Center. Both teams went the distance in their opening-round series, which each concluded on Tuesday night.

Round Two gets started tomorrow evening.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department is announcing that a bat has tested positive for rabies. The bat was found in the Wheeling Island area of Wheeling. The bat did not have a human or domestic animal encounter but was noticeably sick. The bat was collected by the health department on Friday, April 29, 2022, and tested positive for rabies on May 3, 2022.

The results became final final Tuesday.

The Wheeling Nailers advanced to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs in the most thrilling of fashions on Tuesday night, as they defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 3-2 in overtime of game seven at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Matthew Quercia was the hero, as he scooped up a loose puck on the right side of the crease and shoveled it in at the 6:30 mark of the extra session.

The round-two series begins Friday in Toledo.

Ariah Zervos, a 6th grade student at Linsly, has been selected by well-known environmental activist Erin Brockovich as the winner of Wheeling’s Water Pollution Control Division’s (WPCD) logo contest. Zervos was presented with a certificate and a $500 Visa gift card by Mayor Glenn Elliott and City Council during Tuesday’s meeting. Second place went to Lucrezia Santini, a seventh grader from St.

The winner received a $500 gift card.

The City of Wheeling’s Historic Landmarks Commission will be hosting a Historic Tax Credit Workshop at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, May 5 in Council Chambers on the first floor of the City-County Building, 1500 Chapline Street.

The event is set for May 5.

The community is invited to participate in an Ecumenical Prayer Service for Survivors of Abuse - a time to reflect, listen, and unite as we call upon God’s presence, guidance, mercy, and peace. The service is set to begin at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, at the Wheeling Park Amphitheater, next to the White Palace.

The service is expected to last close to an hour.
