Benito, Caracas, 2006 (first 3 pictures), 2018 (following 2 pics) and 2024 (last 3 pics). As a reporter and filmmaker, you don’t often have the chance to follow someone over 18 years. I have had that chance with Benito. In 2006, I was a young reporter covering Hugo Chavez and Venezuela. He took me under his wing and made me at home in his barrio of Petare. I knew the rules and how to operate within those rules. In 2018, I found him again with the help of and quite a few people of Petare. At the time, there was a grave shortage of food and ramping inflation. A few weeks ago, I got the chance to see him again after he had a terrible health scare. Time and life in the slum are taking their toll on him but he is as hopeful and as determined to hang on as ever. As a former boxer, Benito has learned the hard way to be counted. But you can count on him to get back up and I am super lucky to have him in my life. To me Benito is resilience and I look forward to seeing him again soon!

As I was going through my archives this morning, I stumbled upon that shot from another era when I used to look like a rock musician thanks to my friend and I interviewed pop stars such as . This picture is old. It was among pictures I took in 2006-2007. I remember it was in Miami.

Benito, Petare, Caracas, 10.27.24.
I first met Benito in 2006. At the time, I was doing a series of stories on the Venezuelan presidential elections, and he invited me to spend time in his barrio of Petare. Thanks to him, I was able to roam freely in Latin America’s largest slum. I found him again in 2018. At the time ñ, his health had taken a hit as he was unable to afford a treatment. 6 years later, he flirted with death again as he was just released from the hospital after suffering from meningitis. He is losing his eyes sight but the former boxer fights on. It was a very special moment to see him on Sunday deep into Petare as Benito is a truly special human being.

Snapshots from the world premiere of my new film «Desire: the Carl Craig story » on Wednesday night at .This magical night was undoubtedly the highlight of my filmmaking career. I was lucky to be surrounded by my family, my crew, my friends and an incredible crowd. When I arrived in New York, I never ever imagined that one day I would stand on the Tribeca red carpet with Detroit techno legend before sharing a film with a huge crowd and then watch with amazement that same crowd dance to the beats of Carl after the screening. I feel so much gratitude today. But my first thank you goes to my wife , my children and as well as our dog because they gave me the love and strength to carry this film to the end.

Qunceñera. Santo Domingo, 05.12.24. Cool memory of 72 special hours spent with in beautiful and funky Santo Domingo. Many teenage girls were celebrating their 15th birthday in the colonial town and were having their picture taken in their princess dresses last Sunday.

Me, Lausanne, 04.26.24. When I asked my brother .d__ if he could take a few pics of me for the world premiere of my new film « Desire: the Carl Craig story » at , I did not expect it to be so fun. My brother set up a studio at . He brought his and a few bottles of Chasselas, this fizzy white wine that would give a headache to pretty much everyone who would drink it except maybe to the local people from Vaud and to their neighbors from Valais, whose «national drink» is the fendant (another guaranteed headache for people not accustomed to this white wine). This shot captures the fun I had spending time with my brother and letting him try to capture what he could from someone who is way more comfortable behind the camera. I hope you’ll enjoy it. And to you Loulou (my brother), you rock! Thank you!

Geneva, 03.29.24. The color grading of my film “Desire: The Carl Craig Story is a wrap! Happy to have been able to work with awesome senior colorist Boris Rabusseau and , our sound mixer extraordinaire, on the post-production. The film is now almost ready for its world premiere at in June. Time to head back home to NYC.
