MAD DADS was established out of urgent community necessity when concerned parents united against the threat of gang violence and the unmolested flow of illegal drugs.

By providing a visible, active presence, MAD DADS counters these negative pressures with positive fatherhood, mentorship, and street-level protection for youth and families. We remain dedicated to confronting community challenges head-on through proactive service.

One family’s story shows what steady support can do.

The Johnson family came to MAD DADS facing neighborhood violence and instability. Through mentorship for their teenage son, community safety initiatives, and our Street Outreach program, they found stronger footing and a renewed sense of security.

In 2024, more than 300 families benefited from MAD DADS programs, and 85% of participants reported improved feelings of safety and stability. Now the Johnsons are showing up at neighborhood events and advocating for community safety alongside our volunteers.

Since our origin, our activities have been specifically designed to demonstrate positive images of fathers standing up to protect community spaces, empower youth, and support families. We carry that same passion and dedicated commitment forward today in Minneapolis.
