Indonesia again expels China Coast Guard ship from Natuna Sea

The Indonesian Coast Guard (Bakamla) once again expelled Chinese coast guard ship CCG-5402 that tried to enter the North Natuna Sea.

Bakamla spokesperson, Captain Yuhanes Antara said that this was not the first time the CCG-5402 tried to enter Indonesian waters. It has made several such attempts in October 2024.

The Argentinian coast guard shot and sank a Chinese fishing vessel that ventured just 10 nautical miles into Argentina's 200-nautical-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). As an Argentinian maritime security official once said, "You allow one illegal Chinese trawler to enter your EEZ, and the next day there will be hundreds of them." South Korea also regularly detains Chinese fishing vessels the moment they enter South Korea's EEZ.

Meanwhile, two Chinese fishing vessels that went dark (with AIS deliberately turned off) were still detected by SeaLight's technology within 20 nautical miles off the coast of Aurora in the undisputed EAST Philippine Sea. All the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard could say was that they were "monitoring" the vessels and that there was "no cause for alarm," noting that other foreign vessels are also in the area. However, these other foreign vessels are exercising innocent passage in accordance with international maritime law and have not turned off their AIS. In contrast, the Chinese vessels had turned off their AIS and were loitering in the area, displaying clearly suspicious behavior that warrants action from the PN and PCG—beyond just press conferences stating they are monitoring without any clear proof of what type of monitoring is being conducted.
