Michael and I were getting ready for our baby girl to arrive, and I was in my last month of pregnancy. It would've been a wonderful time if it weren't for my mom and MIL.
I mean, I love my MIL, and she loves me too. And sure, I love my mom to pieces. But put these two in the same room? It's chaos! They've hated each other since day one. I thought my pregnancy might get them to call a truce, but nope. The breaking point came when we tried to decide where to have Thanksgiving. As they hissed insults at each other, like "snake" and "old hag," Michael and I lost it and declared we'd host the holiday at our place just to shut them up.
So, the big day arrives. Michael and I come home from shopping, and there's thick black smoke billowing out of our house! We rush in, run to the kitchen, and there they are: my mom and MIL, covered in soot, coughing, and still yelling at each other in the middle of the smoke! I tried to get them to stop, but then... I felt something totally NOT right.

MY FUTURE MIL SWITCHED MY HAIR DYE TO NEON GREEN RIGHT BEFORE MY WEDDING TO SABOTAGE IT
A few days before my wedding, I left my usual ashy blonde dye in the bathroom, ready for a quick touch-up. And when my future MIL, Linda, "dropped by" to check on wedding plans and used the bathroom, I didn't think much of it.
Fast forward to my salon appointment, and mid-way through the dye application, my stylist suddenly freezes. "Uh... this isn't blonde. It's neon green." I looked at the bottle and nearly fainted — it was bright green dye. My hair was transforming into a glowing nightmare.

I FOUND AN OLD RAGGED MAP WITH A CROSS ON IT IN THE HOUSE I RECENTLY STARTED TO RENT.
We moved into this house just two weeks ago, renting it from a guy who's probably around 27. The house used to belong to his dad, who passed away six months ago and left it to him.
The other day, while fixing the floorboards, I noticed something tucked underneath one of them — a plastic bag with something wrapped inside. When I opened it, I found an old map! It looked like it was of a forest near the house, with a big "X" marked on it.
For a couple of days, I wasn't sure what to do — should I go check out the spot on the map or just leave it alone? Eventually, I decided to call the owner of the house and let him know about it.
"OH MY GOD! THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME! I'll be there in 10 minutes. Please don't go to the forest without me!" he practically yelled over the phone.

I'm 42, and my whole life has been about raising my two kids. On the surface, my husband Robert and I looked like the perfect family. But lately, something about him seemed off.

It started small — he was late for dinner one night without even bothering to tell me, which was unlike him. Then I caught a glimpse of a text on his phone that said, "Will you be coming over today?" Robert flipped his phone over like he had something to hide the second he realized I'd seen it.

That was it for me. I couldn't just sit around feeling like a fool, but I also wasn't ready to confront him head-on. Instead, I decided to follow him after work. And sure enough, instead of driving home, he headed straight to a motel.

I watched as a stunning young woman greeted him at the door to one of the rooms. They went inside together, and I sat in my car, fuming. About an hour later, Robert came out, and I couldn't hold it in anymore. I stormed up to him, yelling, "How could you do this to me?!"

He looked genuinely confused and said, "Calm down. Just come with me — you'll understand."

I SPENT MY LAST SAVINGS TO BUY MY LITTLE STUDENT A GUITAR, AND HIS BROTHER WENT AND SMASHED IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF US

I've lived a long honest life, but at 75, I'm completely alone. The only legacy I have left is a guitar, the last item from my music shop that I dedicated my life to. I dreamed of finding someone to pass on my legacy to before I leave this world.

So, I made friends with the neighbor kid, Tommy. He dreamed of playing like I did but couldn't afford his own instrument—his parents had died, and he has only an older brother. I started teaching him, and then... I gave him my last savings so he could buy a guitar. He had a light, a talent.

And then he disappeared. I found out his brother, Jason, had forbidden him from playing music. Not understanding why he was so harsh with little Tommy, I offered to help and went to talk to him.

From day one, my mother-in-law Laura decided she hated me. She was convinced I was cheating on her precious son and that the baby I was carrying wasn't even his. Why? Because I work as an engineer and most of my team happens to be men. Apparently, that was all the evidence she needed. I never even entertained the idea of cheating on my husband, but Laura didn't care. I tried my best to just ignore her nonsense.

Then came the nightmare scenario: I had to drive Laura to our country house, just the two of us, in the middle of winter. Sure enough, my car got stuck in the woods during a snowstorm. Already a bad situation, right? But then—because life loves irony—I went into labor.

You'd think this would be the moment Laura stepped up and acted like an adult, right? Nope. Instead, she looked at me and sneered, "What's wrong? Is your product of cheating trying to make an entrance now?"

MY 13-YEAR-OLD SON STARTED STAYING LATE AFTER SCHOOL — I WENT TO CHECK WHY AND SAW HIM GETTING INTO A CONVOY OF BLACK SUVS

I'm raising my son on my own. He's never had a father around, and I never remarried.

My Kyle's always been a wild, energetic kid. He's either out playing sports or creating something with his friends. But recently, things got… strange. He barely spends any time at home now. I'd ask him what he's up to after school, and he'd just say he's playing music with friends or playing soccer.

FOUR YEARS AFTER MY HUSBAND WENT MISSING, HIS DOG BROUGHT ME THE JACKET HE WAS WEARING ON THE DAY HE DISAPPEARED.

Four years have passed since my husband disappeared without a trace. He set out on a solo hike in the mountains, and no one has seen him since. Those years were incredibly hard for me and our two kids. Over time, we adjusted to life without him, even though we still think about him a lot.

Then, one day, out of nowhere, something crazy happened. I was lying on a blanket in our backyard when my husband's dog (whom I hadn't seen for 4 years because he disappeared with my husband that day) ran into our yard — with my husband's jacket in its mouth. The very same jacket he wore on that hike!

I tried to get closer to the dog, but it took off running. I followed, running for about 20 minutes until we ended up in the woods not far from our neighborhood.

MOTHER LEAVES HER DAUGHTER IN WHEELCHAIR WITH STEPFATHER – RETURNS YEARS LATER & DOESN'T RECOGNIZE HER

Michelle didn't realize something was wrong until her stepdad, Eugene, collapsed onto the sofa and started crying. They'd just arrived home and discovered a note from Mom on the coffee table. That same note now lay on the seat beside Eugene.

Michelle navigated her wheelchair through the gap between the sofa and the armchair. She leaned over and snatched up the note.

"Michelle, don't." Eugene reached to grab the note.

Michelle reversed out of his reach. She needed to know what the heck was going on. She held the page in one hand. Her fingers shook as she scanned her mother's words:

"I can't do it anymore. You know I never wanted children, but I tried my best to care for Michelle anyway. That burden has taken the best years of my life from me. But now that she's 16, I've decided it's time I pursue my dream of becoming an actress before it's too late..."

Michelle didn't read the rest. She crumpled the page in her fist as tears poured down her cheeks. Burden... was that all she was?
