Black Maternal Health Week :Protect Black Women.
According to the CDC, Black Women are 3 to 4 times likely to experience pregnancy-related deaths compared to white women in the US.

This statistic is troubling and very scary as a black woman who is also a healthcare professional.
It was imperative for me to have a team that I felt comfortable with and trusted while having a birth plan during both of my pregnancies. (I am grateful for my birthing team : .adade ! )

💡💡When I hear PROTECT BLACK WOMEN, the 1st thing that comes to mind : LISTEN TO THEM!

This requires a multidisciplinary approach but listening and fostering a safe space of communication is key as a healthcare provider!

On the flip side as a patient, having a knowledgeable & supportive system to advocate for you is important.

💡Here are some early warning signs during pregnancy /post-partum period to seek medical care for:
Headache
Visual changes
Dizziness
Chest pain
Shortness of breath
Extreme Swelling of hands/feet
Vaginal bleeding
Abdominal Pain
Depression
Domestic Abuse

Happy April! Don't beat yourself up if you didn't accomplish your goals last quarter. There is always opportunity to get them done this quarter!

💡Set aside time to be productive without any distractions and stick to it (sometimes you have to shut off the phone 😬) !

💡Use a planner... you can go old-school or digital like to help you stay organized.

💡Journaling is key for me. I'm able to reflect and see what I have accomplished while staying motivated on goals that I'm working on.

💡💡Last but not least is Prayer for me! Keeps me grounded and focused on purpose.

Sometimes we can overcomplicate things and talk ourselves out of accomplishing goals (whether small or big).I say this to myself as I have drafted emails/applications sitting in my inbox 😬.

Happy New Year, New Month , First Week of 2022 !

I know many people have been working on vision boards/list for 2022 and so are we as a family unit .We have our individual goals, marriage /parenting goals and being intentional is key to keeping us accountable. It is so powerful to write your vision down when you accomplish goals and such a great reminder when these goals are accomplished.

This is a reminder to keep pushing .We often tend to give up when we are right at the step of victory. Life can be tough and we all go throigh difficult seasons but there is a light at the end of the tunnel... just get there!

Say no from the start; you will have rest. -African Proverb

This is something I am learning to do nowadays. You can't be everything for everybody. That is why discernment is key. Learning to be led by God with everything I do.

Many times people forget to take care of themselves because they are focused on taking care of others (emphasis to all my mamas ). This is a reminder to say no and rest.
