No matter the situation, relationship or friendship that ends, there are and always will be times in your life that you will feel lonely.
Not basic lonely, where you are just looking for companionship. That deep, dark, innate sense of alone that sets in slowly, like a terrible storm approaching and overwhelming all of your senses. Lonely where your heart aches so hard it manifests a physical and uncontrollable response in your body.
This can be one of the most difficult things to overcome. Because ultimately, we crave that connection, the depth of which is the only thing that quells this feeling, even if you can't really describe or put words to it. It's one of the reasons we have trouble letting go or leaving bad relationships or friendships.
The down side being, you know you will forfeit all those little moments that make you know you're loved. Those moments that lift your spirits and give you hope, restoring the connection. No matter how bad the rest of the time is, we try to hold strong to the good feelings, pushing until the realization hits that this continuance is lacking in depth and restoration is unattainable.
And when the time comes, as much as you want that connection, it's daunting to start the process with someone new. You're exposed to being hurt again. Which is why we take breaks in between relationships, to establish guidelines for the next one, guarded, so that we are not immediately exposed to the same hurt.
Keep your head high. Use your friends to your advantage. Talk through your feelings.
THIS TOO SHALL PASS!
