Grace in Guidance: Celebrating the Birthday of Our JHS Principal, Ma’am Marifel D. Li Fong!

Ma’am Marifel D. Li Fong has always been a leader with a heart that nurtures. Through her care and wisdom, the campus has become a place full of life, laughter, and unity that continues to inspire both students and teachers.

Her guidance goes beyond lessons and instructions. From elementary to junior high school, Ma’am Marifel has nurtured learners with gentleness and understanding, shaping not just what they know but who they become. Her leadership shows that true guidance grows from compassion, patience, and faith.

As 1 Peter 3:4 teaches, “True beauty comes from the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit.” Ma’am Marifel reflects this every day through her grace and humility, touching hearts with her kindness.🩷

𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗖𝗨 𝗨𝗛𝗦𝗠 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

October 1, 2025— Cheers echoed through the gymnasium of PCU UHSM as students gathered to honor the mentors who guide, teach, and inspire them. The Supreme Student Council (SSC) led this year’s Teachers’ Day celebration, setting the floor for an afternoon filled with gratitude and heartfelt appreciation. The program began with the teachers’ grand entrance, welcomed by loud cheers from the crowd as they treated the gym like a runway lined with admiration, The SSC then followed with a bright dance number that had students cheering even louder as they joined the teachers in a flash mob performance, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity.

The celebration continued with the recognition of teachers, each receiving a certificate to honor their dedication and passion for shaping young minds.
Beyond the program, students found their own ways to express gratitude.The SSC, together with the Union Echo, catered coffee and distributed notes for the teachers, while others prepared small gifts and handwritten notes for their advisers. On the third floor, a bulletin board bloomed with colorful sticky notes,each carrying a message of affection from students to their beloved teachers.

More than a celebration, the event became a touching reminder of the teachers’ lasting influence,not only in sharing knowledge but also in shaping the character and values of every student. The day ended with students embracing their teachers, a simple gesture that spoke volumes of respect and recognition for their never-ending efforts.

September 2–5, 2025—PCU Union High school of Manila joyfully celebrated its Christian Formation Emphasis Week (CFEW) with four days filled with faith, fellowship, and the overflowing love of Christ.
With the theme “𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗟𝗢𝗔𝗗,” the week opened with classroom reflection activities, singspiration, and Bible study. After the group sharing, Unionites gathered at the UCCP Ellinwood Malate Church for the first CFEW service organized by the Union Christian Fellowship (UCF). The Junior High School Glee Club led the congregation in songs of praise, uplifting the atmosphere for the week’s worship services.

The message was delivered by 𝗥𝗲𝘃. 𝗥𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗖. 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴, who shared heartfelt testimonies that grounded students in faith and community, setting the tone for the rest of the week as he preached about God’s boundless love for everyone. Following his sermon, greetings were offered by Supervising Principal for Basic Education, 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗥𝗵𝗼𝗱 𝗕. 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗼, and Junior High School Principal, 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹 𝗗. 𝗟𝗶 𝗙𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗴, who both left students with inspiring words to carry throughout the celebration.

The second day blended worship with excitement as students once again gathered for Bible study and a chapel service. The highlight of the day came with the much-anticipated Bible Quiz held at the PCU College Auditorium, where laughter and cheers filled the room as participants tested their knowledge of Scripture.

Beyond worship and study, creativity also played a central role in CFEW 2025. Unionites showcased their artistry through the Making of Bulletin Boards, with each club designing displays that reflected the theme “𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗟𝗢𝗔𝗗.” Hallways came alive with colorful posters, cutouts, and lights — all crafted to convey messages of faith, compassion, and unity. The activity gave Unionites the chance to collaborate beyond the classroom, blending their skills in design and teamwork to produce bulletin boards that not only expressed their ideas but also inspired the entire school community.

The week’s most highly anticipated highlight came in the form of musical performances. Days of preparation for the 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗿 and Finals for the 𝗚𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 finally paid off as Unionites filled the 7th Floor of the PCU College SciTech Building with harmonies of worship and praise. The atmosphere was divine, every note, every movement on stage was a reflection of days of practice, discipline, and passion. Unionites performed not only to compete but also to share their faith through music, turning the event into both a celebration and an offering.Their performances were carefully evaluated by the esteemed panel of judges, whose expertise added depth and fairness to the competition.

The program concluded with an awarding ceremony, where the winners of the bulletin board contest, the Show Choir, and the Gospel Singing Contest were honored. Certificates and recognition were handed out, but the greater takeaway was a sense of accomplishment and belonging. For many, the applause and medals were secondary to the joy of having contributed to a collective experience in faith.

In the end, the Christian Formation Emphasis Week (CFEW) was more than just a series of activities. It was a reminder that love in abundance is not only a theme but a way of living, through worship, creativity, and the lasting memories built in fellowship. A huge congratulations and gratitude also goes to Mrs. Leah S. Camacho, CFEW Coordinator, our school administrators, faculty and staff who make this faith-filled week meaningful and successful.

ICYMI: Union High School of Manila (UHSM) student council candidates officially presented their platforms during the Miting De Avance held last August 20, 2025 at the 7th Floor, Science and Technology Building of Philippine Christian University. The event, organized by the Commission on Student Elections with adviser Ms. Archie E. Amparo was hosted by Mohammad Johanies G. Tagam and Ayasofya Vittoria S. Aguirre.

The program began with an icebreaker titled “Riddle Hunt: Solve it, Find it, Bring it” led by Michaela Joy Umlas and Messiah Ezail Yruma. This was followed by opening remarks from the UHSM Principal Mrs. Marifel D. Li Fong and greetings from the Supervising Principal, Mrs. Rodina B. Autencio, who emphasized “character, consistency, and commitment to serve in leadership.

Two partylists, ARANGKADA and TAYO,took the stage to introduce their members and present their platforms. Their speeches drew enthusiastic responses from the student body, reflecting the energy of this year’s electoral season

The event also featured a special performance by Josche Irene F. Sanchez, who sang Still Into You by Paramore, and a Face Off between the two partylists, facilitated by John Lloyd Luchavez and Kyo Lin Fukuyama, provided a spirited exchange of ideas and platforms.

Before closing, students received tokens of appreciation, followed by a prayer and final remarks from Supreme Student Council Adviser Sir Raymon Aristosa.

The Unionite’s Miting De Avance 2025 was more than just a campaign — it was a showcase of leadership, passion, and the voices of tomorrow’s leaders. Truly, the Unionites left the auditorium not just as an audience, but as empowered participants in shaping their future.

Agosto 28, 2025 - Taun-taon ipinagdiriwang sa buong bansa ang Buwan ng Wika sa PCU Union High School, ang pagdiriwang na ito ay naging isang makabuluhang pagkakataon upang maipakita ng mga Unionites ang kanilang husay, galing, at pagmamahal sa wikang Filipino at kulturang Pilipino.

Sa pamamagitan ng iba’t ibang pagtatanghal at gawain, pinatunayan ng mga mag-aaral at guro na ang Filipino ay hindi lamang wika ng pakikipag-usap, kundi wika ng pagkakaisa, pagkakakilanlan, at patuloy na pag-unlad ng pamayanan. Ang Pangwakas na Pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika ay nagsisilbing pagbubuklod sa buong paaralan upang higit pang malalim ang pagpapahalaga sa ating sariling wika at kultura.

Sa temang “Paglinang sa Filipino, at Katutubong Wika: Makasaysayan sa Pagkakaisa ng Bansa”, ipinagdiwang ng buong paaralan ang Buwan ng Wika sa pamamagitan ng isang makulay at makabuluhang pangwakas na pagdiriwang.

Opisyal na sinimulan ang programa sa pamamagitan ng Entrance of Colors ng mga Boy Scouts, na sinundan ng taimtim na Panimulang Panalangin na pinangunahan ni Bb. Viktoria Jireh T. Tongol. Pinatingkad naman ang diwa ng pagkakaisa sa sabayang pag-awit ng Lupang Hinirang sa pangunguna ni Bb. Elizabeth Leigh M. Tandoc. Matapos nito, nagbigay ng makabuluhang Pambungad na Pananalita si Gng. Marites Bigtacion, at sinundan ng pagbasa ng mensaheng pagbati ni Gng. Eleen Asino para kay Rodina B. Autencio.

Isa sa mga tampok na bahagi ng programa ang makulay na pagtatanghal ng Teatrong Filipino, isang adaptasyon mula sa Noli Me Tangere. Sinundan ito ng pagpapakilala sa mga iginagalang na hurado ng patimpalak na sina Bb. Gloria Nabus, G. George Bernard, at Bb. Samantha B. Montañez, sa pangunguna ni Bb. Kimberly Sayson.

Matapos ipakilala ang mga hurado, agad na sinundan ito ng pinakahihintay na bahagi ng programa, ang patimpalak sa Sabayang Pagbigkas, na tunay na nagpasigla at nagbigay-inspirasyon sa mga nanonood.

Unang nagpakitang-gilas ang pangkat 8–Camia, na sinundan ng 8–Rose at 9–Daffodil. Pagkaraan nito, muling pinasigla ng 7–Sampaguita ang programa sa pamamagitan ng kanilang makabuluhang Awiting Bayan. Nagpatuloy ang pagtatanghal sa husay ng 9–Hyacinth, 10–Callalily, at 10–Easter Lily. Sa huli, muling ipinamalas ng 7–Carnation ang kanilang sariling bersyon ng Awiting Bayan na nagdagdag ng kulay at sigla sa buong pagdiriwang.

Pagkatapos ng makabuluhang pagtatanghal ng mga iba’t ibang pangkat, nagbigay aliw ang Dance Club sa kanilang masiglang sayaw sa pamumuno ni Sir Aristosa, ang kanilang tagapayo. Hindi rin nagpahuli ang Glee Club, na naghandog ng mga awitin na Paro-Parong Bukid at Walang Natira.

Natapos ang unang bahagi ng programa sa opisyal na pagtatanghal at paggawad, at sinundan ito ng Pistang Salo-salo bilang ikalawang bahagi ng selebrasyon. Ginanap ito sa kani-kanilang mga silid-aralan ng bawat pangkat, kung saan nagkaroon ng masayang pagsasalu-salo ang mga mag-aaral. Sa kabuuan, ang pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika ay hindi lamang nagbigay ng kasiyahan kundi nagpaalala rin ng kahalagahan ng ating wika at kultura bilang mga Pilipino.

“Ang wika ay siyang nagpapahayag ng mga kaisipan at mithiin ng isang bayan.” - Manuel L. Quezon

Noong 1935, isang lider ang humubog sa ating pagkakaisa at kalayaan sa pamamagitan ng wika—si Manuel L. Quezon. Ngayon, halos isang siglo na ang lumipas, patuloy pa rin nating ipinagdiriwang ang bunga ng kanyang paninindigan: ang ating Wikang Pambansa.

Tuwing buwan ng Agosto, ating binibigyang parangal at pagkilala ang wika, kultura, at kasuotang Pilipino na sagisag ng ating pagka-Pilipino. Sa bawat pagdiriwang, laging binibigyang-pugay ang Ama ng Wikang Pambansa, na si Manuel L. Quezon. Kung kaya’t kasabay ng kanyang kaarawan noong ika-19 ng Agosto 2025 ay ginunita at ipinagdiwang din sa PCU- Union High School of Manila ang pagsusuot ng “Kasuotang Pinoy” bilang parte ng mga aktibidad para sa Buwan ng Wika. Ipinamalas ng mga estudyanteng mula baitang 7 hanggang baitang 10 ang kariktan, pagka-makabayan, at ang masining na mga kasuotang barong, baro’t saya at filipiniana na sumisimbolo sa yaman ng ating kultura. Tila ang mga tela na ang siyang nag kuwento ng ating kasaysayan at ang ating dangal sa bayan.

Nagkaroon din ng pagdaraos kaninang umaga sa simbahan ng Ellinwood Malate Church ang Buwan ng Wika. Sinundan naman ito ng kaganapan na “Everybody’s Birthday” kung saan bawat baitang at bawat seksyon ng klase ay may 2 mapalad na estudyanteng maaring mabunot na manalo ng tig-isang kahon ng donat.

Sa huli, ang pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika ay hindi lamang pagbabalik-tanaw sa nagawa ni Manuel L. Quezon kundi isa ring pagkakataon upang ipakita ang yaman ng ating kultura sa pamamagitan ng wikang Filipino at ating tradisyonal na kasuotan. Ang bawat Agosto ay paalala na ang ating wika at kultura ay dapat ipagmalaki, ipagpatuloy at ipamana sa mga susunod na henerasyon; sapagkat sa pagsanib ng wika, alaala at pananamit, naipapakita natin ang ating pagkakaisa at pagmamahal sa bayan—isang pamana na kailangang buhayin ng bawat Pilipino.

February 24, 2025- Unionites once again proved their excellence as they dominated the recently concluded FAMMPSA competition and PhilHealth Reel-Making contest, securing victories in multiple categories. Their achievements were recognized with a special opportunity to meet the President of Philippine Christian University, Dr. Junifen F. Gauuan making the win even more memorable.

Beyond celebrating their success in academics, selected Unionites also showcases their talents and creativity in winning 1st Place on the last year’s PhilHealth -4MKNB? reel-making contest among all the participating schools in the National Capital Region (NCR). The said competition aimed at promoting the basics of Universal Health Care (UHC) and participation in the National Health Insurance Program which PhilHealth administers.This experience not only highlighted their talents in academics and extracurricular activities but also provided a unique platform for them to showcase their skills in media production.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Associations of Private Schools in Metro Manila (FAMMPSA) is an organization that brings together private schools across the region. It hosts a variety of inter school competitions in subjects like mathematics, communication arts, science, and sports. FAMMPSA also offers various programs aimed at fostering growth and collaboration among its member schools. The organization includes notable associations such as the Association of Private Secondary School Administrators of Manila (APSSAM), the Manila Association of Private Elementary School Administrators (MAPESA) and the Manila Association of Private Preschool Administrators (MAPPRESA)

PCU-UHSM extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding performances! Their dedication, perseverance, and talent have brought great honor to the school. Each achievement is a testament to their hard work and passion for excellence. A special appreciation also goes out to the administrators and coaches who provided unwavering support and guidance throughout the competition. Their commitment to nurturing young talents has played a crucial role in this success.
