Walk into some schools and you’ll be amazed. Glass buildings, green fields, world-class resources, new fancy campuses.
Every corner whispers excellence, “state-of-the-art,” “innovative learning.”
But beneath the shine… how is the child being treated?
Children can feel anxious, and isolated, even in the most privileged schools. Grades, awards, and projects are celebrated; emotional growth is not. Schools rarely teach resilience, asking for help, or expressing struggles. Children learn to hide their pain because it isn’t rewarded.

Many schools invest millions in architecture and branding, while emotional wellbeing remains optional. Teachers are trained to manage performance, not feelings.

And the authorities, the “experts” at conferences for children?
Do they know the names of the kids who are anxious to go to school, the ones having nightmares, the ones struggling sometimes even with teachers?
Do they work tirelessly to find solutions?
Do they realize they are answerable for every single child in their school?
It’s a big question- and probably one that rarely gets asked.
Or is it easier to applaud new fancy campuses, shiny buildings, new curricula, and catchy slogans?

You can’t buy belonging.
You build it, through empathy, connection, and authentic relationships.
If a school wants to call itself “world-class,” measure it by:
* How safe children feel
* How seen and understood they are
Not by marble floors, smart boards, or shiny resources alone.

So next time you walk through those shiny hallways, ask:
- “Who’s checking on the child who looks fine but isn’t?”
- “Who’s making sure they feel understood, not just instructed?”
- “Who’s teaching them that their voice matters, even when it’s trembling?”

Education isn’t built in marble. It’s built in connection.

The Minds Sitting in Our Classrooms, Episode 4.

Some children feel everything, joy, fear, anger, excitement- all at once.
Not every child who experiences intense emotions has bipolar disorder.
Don’t label. Don’t shame.

Many of these children are overwhelmed, anxious, or unregulated- and they need understanding, not judgment.
Parents and teachers, your role is to stay steady, offer structure, calm communication, and empathy.

The child isn’t aware.
It’s not dirty.
It’s not intentional.
It’s regulation. It’s comfort.

Stopping them harshly doesn’t fix it, it teaches shame.
And that shame lasts far longer than the act itself.

Schools: Encourage curiosity, effort, and safe setbacks.
Parents: Celebrate mistakes, reassure, and provide support.

Eyes on the Quiet

Whenever there is an event at your
school, like an annual concert or sports day, or any event where all the children are gathered together in a basketball court or an auditorium, they are usually dancing, screaming, enjoying themselves. How many of us notice a child or two in the same room who are not enjoying themselves? They might be sitting quietly, just staring at what's going on around them, or sitting away from their classmates. Why are they not having fun? They could be tired or just having a bad day because they didn't sleep well or eat well.
But sometimes, you find stories from these children that will break your heart.

Watch out for them, as their teacher if you earn their trust and they tell you what’s bothering them, they might sleep better that night!
