AAPPOINTMENT, TRAINING AND COMMISSIONING OF THE ELECTORAL BODY
On 11 May 2023, an electoral board that consists of the elections commission, Observers, Media team, and representatives from the Christian Union(CU), Catholic Students Association(CSA), Seventh Day Adventist(SDA), and Muslim Students Association(MSA) was formed to foster the smooth running of the process during the electioneering period.
Presiding over the exercise, the elections coordinator, Mr. Wesley Ruto, together with his counterpart, the Returning Officer, Mr. Isaac Lagat equipped the members of the electoral board with skills. The training program commenced on the 11th of May 2023 and went up to the 12th of May 2023.
Subsequently, the electoral board was officially commissioned to oversee the entire elections.
The team will sensitise and provide voter education to students in various departments and societies within the institution to ensure maximum participation in the democratic exercise.
Based on various issues that were discussed during the workout, responsibilities were designated to the electoral board sections as follows: -
a)Voter education.
b)Roles of the returning officer, presiding officer, and the clerk.
c)Security team.
d)The importance of why the electoral officials are there and what they need to do.
e)Familiarization and need for teamwork.
Mr. Ruto inspired the members of the electoral board to work together to nudge amicable elections.
Further, Ruto cautioned the committee against unethical and illegal practices adding that any irresponsible actions shall be dealt with without fear or favour.
"Election is a process for just a short season. It shouldn't be the end of life, " Alluded the Coordinator.
