Discover Lake T**icaca: A Natural Wonder
Lake T**icaca isn't just any lake – it's one of the world's highest and largest, a truly breathtaking natural wonder!
This incredible lake straddles the border between Peru and Bolivia, sitting approximately 12,507 feet (3,812 meters) above sea level. Imagine water at that elevation!
Covering about 3,232 square miles (8,372 square kilometers), it's the largest lake in South America by surface area. And it's not just vast; it also reaches a maximum depth of 922 feet (281 meters). While there are deeper lakes globally, T**icaca's combination of altitude, size, and depth makes it truly unique.
Its stunning high-altitude setting, coupled with the rich cultures of the people living along its shores, makes Lake T**icaca an absolutely fascinating place. It's definitely a natural wonder worth experiencing!
Did You Know? The Meaning Behind the Name
The name "T**icaca" comes from the indigenous Aymara and Quechua languages, with a couple of interesting interpretations:
* Many believe it's from the Aymara language, where "T**i" means puma and "Kaka" means rock. This translates to something like "Puma Rock" or "Rock of the Puma," possibly referring to the shape of the islands or the region's mythical connections.
* Another take, from the Quechua language, suggests "T**i" means lead and "Kaka" means mountain, leading to "Lead Mountain." This might hint at the area's mineral-rich land.
Regardless of the precise origin, the name is deeply connected to local mythology and the landscape, as the lake is considered sacred by the indigenous populations.

The Aghori followes Hindu religion and are believed to be a millennia old. These monks are often regarded as sadhus (Sanskrit for ‘good/holy man’), and have their entire lives given to the enlightenment of moksha (liberation). Unlike other monks, the Aghori follow a controversial path towards enlightenment.
These paths are considered as taboo to orthodox Hinduism, and the Aghori are considered to be the most feared sadhus in India. They are also highly respected.

So what distinguishes them.

'They practice canabalism'.
