After we left the superb Steamtown, we headed further south into Pennsylvania to visit the historic battleground of Gettysburg, a site that embodies the spirit of resilience and freedom. The battle, which lasted from July 1-3, 1863, was a pivotal moment in American history, marking a triumphant turning point for the Union as General Robert E. Lee's army was pushed back toward Richmond. More than 50,000 soldiers demonstrated unwavering courage, with many making the ultimate sacrifice, thereby shaping the course of American history.
We didn't get the entire way around the battlegrounds, but the experience was truly enriching, and we're inspired to plan better for our next visit.
The town of Gettysburg itself is a testament to the enduring legacy of the past, with many civil war properties still standing, recognized by a 𝓋ℯ𝓇𝓎 𝓈𝓂𝒶𝓁𝓁 brass plaque, a subtle yet powerful reminder of the sacrifices made.
