Burgos National High School celebrated Nutrition Month Culminating Activity 2025, with different colorful and educational activities that promoted healthy living and proper lifestyles among students.

With the theme, “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat! ” with the subtheme, “Food and Nutrition Security: Making Priority! Sapat na pagkain, Karapatan Natin! ", students participated in contested activities: traditional poster-making, traditional slogan-making, and cookfest.

The program was managed by the TLE coordinator, Mr. Villamor C. Baculi, together with the TLE teachers and club officers, who held the poster and slogan making contest and cookfest contest, which is specifically a chosen event for the celebration of Nutrition Month that aims to empower the prowess of nutrition and health among students.

For the poster and slogan-making contest, teachers challenged students to bring out their artistic style and strengths that promote nutritional goals.

The Cookfest contest highlights the importance of nutritious foods, with five members in each section showcasing their cooking skills while emphasizing nutritious and affordable meals. Participants were tasked to do dishes in the following categories: grade 7 - fruit salad, grade 8 - vegetable salad, grade 9 - pork dish, grade 10 - chicken dish, grade 11 - fish dish, and grade 12 - seafood dish.

“I’ve noticed that many children these days eat or drink carelessly, like buying energy drinks, which is harmful to your health. You should always look after your health by having a balanced and healthy diet that your body suits best,” said by RHU Representative of Burgos, Ms. Cony Gay Gonda, to inspire students to be healthier.

The event highlighted Burgos NHS's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles while nurturing the skills and talents of its students.

Burgos National High School underwent District Phil-IRI Validation yesterday as part of the Department of Education’s quality assurance efforts to verify the accuracy and consistency of reading assessment data. The validation aims to ensure that results gathered through the Phil-IRI (Philippine Informal Reading Inventory) are valid, reliable, and usable in crafting targeted literacy programs for learners.
The validation was conducted by a team of schools head and language reading coordinators from three secondary schools in the district: Burgos National High School, Bacnor National High School, and San Antonino National High School. These validators reviewed the reading data submitted by Burgos NHS, focusing on documentation from Grades 7 to 10.
The process included a close examination of learner profile forms, word recognition and comprehension scores, actual oral reading assessment, and supporting assessment records. The team also provided technical assistance and engaged in reflective discussions with the school’s English teachers and reading coordinator to clarify procedures and improve data collection practices.
Mrs. Ruby R. Guillermo, Principal of Burgos National High School, emphasized the value of the activity. “This validation is important because we want to ensure our data truly reflects our learners’ reading needs. From here, we can design effective and responsive reading interventions,” she said.
According to the district validators, the accuracy of Phil-IRI data plays a crucial role in identifying struggling readers, planning remediation, and monitoring literacy progress. Recommendations were given to enhance the consistency of scoring, improve documentation practices, and maintain assessment fidelity.
The outcome of the validation will support Burgos NHS in refining its reading programs, while also contributing to the district's shared goal of developing functionally literate and confident learners.

Following the agreement made during the first General Assembly Meeting last June 28 to address concerns about the long-standing problem of the school’s garbage disposal area, Burgos National High School staff, parents, and community volunteers joined forces in the Brigada Eskwela Plus clean-up activity early this Saturday morning.

The clean-up drive aimed to revamp the school’s waste site, ensuring a safer and more sanitary environment for students and staff alike. This was one the first coordinated projects under the direction of the new school head,Ma'am Ruby R. Guillermo.

“This initiative reflects the strong cooperation between the school and the community,” said Mrs. Guillermo. “Through Brigada Eskwela Plus, we aim to continuously improve our facilities and promote shared responsibility.”

The activity also received support from Barangay Caliguian’s Hakot Basura Activity led by Brgy.Captain Ma. Encarlonia Gragasin where assistance in hauling and properly disposing of the collected waste will be made.

Brigada Eskwela Plus is a year-round program of the Department of Education that encourages schools to engage the community in solving problems affecting school operations and learning environments.

Burgos NHS continues to explore initiatives to establish a garbage recovery facility within the school grounds.

Burgos NHS strengthens disaster preparedness thru participation in the 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill 2025

In a continuous effort to ensure the safety and preparedness of its students and staff, Burgos National High School conducted the 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) today . The school reinforced its commitment to disaster readiness by practicing essential safety measures, including the duck, cover, and hold technique and proper evacuation procedures.

The drill, conducted nationwide, aimed to equip students, teachers, and staff with the skills necessary to respond effectively in the event of an earthquake. At Burgos National High School, students and staff responded quickly and efficiently, demonstrating their knowledge of safety protocols in real-time scenarios.

The drill began with the students and staff taking cover under desks and tables, positioning themselves in a protective manner to shield themselves from falling debris. Once the shaking subsided, the evacuation procedures were promptly followed, with everyone safely leaving the building in an orderly manner. The exercise was closely observed by school administrators and disaster response personnel, ensuring that the protocols were adhered to and identifying areas for improvement.

The participation of BNHS in the NSED underscores its commitment to creating a culture of preparedness and ensuring the safety of everyone on campus. The drill provided an invaluable opportunity to reinforce safety procedures and raise awareness about the importance of disaster readiness among the school community.

Special thanks go to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee and teaching and non-teaching staff led by Mr. Niño C. Guillermo, the school principal for the guidance and coordination which played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the drill.

Burgos National High School continues to prioritize the safety and welfare of its community, and this drill serves as another step toward building a resilient and disaster-ready environment for all students and staff.
