The summer may be over, for another year, but we're holding onto the memories of swimming in the sea and admiring the great ocean as rays catch the ripples and glisten 🌊 .skingley captures the splendor and allure of the deep blue, perfectly. What will you miss most about summer?

"I grew up very close to the coast. For me the sea has always been a big part of my life and where I have always felt the most comfortable. When I first picked a camera up, it felt natural to shoot my surrounding environments and as time has progressed, I feel that my attraction to the sea has remained a constant in my work."

Do you find peace or serenity on a walk or an adventure somewhere that's unfamiliar to you? Perhaps, it gives you a chance to gather your thoughts or fully allow your mind to wander. .skingley tells us what a solo walk means to him and his experience documenting a recent hike on a coastal route called 'The Fisherman's Way' in southern Portugal. "I was looking into the relationship between people, spaces and the act of travelling through them. ‘The Fisherman’s Way’ is a route in the south of Portugal and by walking it I was trying to figure out what was important to me through a detachment from society. In some ways, I used ‘The Fisherman’s Way’ as a sort of pilgrimage to understand what I found valuable in my life without the everyday to distract. Walking is such a simple act that many people nowadays overlook as a transportation method but I, and others I’ve spoken to, see it as slowing down - and just breathing - in such a busy and scheduled world"

"I had never submitted my work into any competitions prior to the Sony World Photography Grant. If I’m honest, I wasn’t even planning on entering until my mate told me to on the last day of submissions. As a result of receiving this grant I have been able to purchase a water housing for my camera, something I’ve wanted for years but never been able to justify the expense for. This has allowed me to push my work further, and start working first-hand in the environment I find most inspiring; the sea!"

"I am proud of myself for just doing it, painting everyday and believing in my work and being confident. It’s not alway easy being a woman, a mother and an artist. If I get someone telling me I have inspired them to start painting again, that makes me the most proud: inspiring people to create is great" - Borneo Studio

Starting her process from small scale and making her way onto bigger pieces on wood or canvas, Mongenie’s designs will stop you in your tracks and allow you to take a second for reflection. We could all find a sense of calm admiring her abstract paintings, with muted colours offering a peaceful glance and soft blends, far from harsh lines and jagged edges, evoking a visual tranquility ✨

Borneo Studio - Andrea Mongenie - an Art and Print studio in North London. Balancing being a mother with sustaining her artistry, Andrea is a representation of hard-work, dedication and commitment!

"I learned alongside my mother growing up, she’s a painter, and then at art school. I remember I did this very formal fine art class at the Musée du Louvre in Paris every Saturday morning when I was a kid and still now I remember the techniques I learned, mixing paint etc. I studied fine art at uni and specialised in printed textiles. I paused making art for a while after uni and came back to it a couple of years ago. Interestingly, having a child of my own reignited my need to make and paint very strongly"

Owning her signature style of thick textured paint, it's no question that Georgia Hart Studios - British Canadian landscape painter - is quite literally making her mark. Each moment in time that's encapsulated dances off the paper with swirls, slides, sways and leaps. The work's 3D qualities and use of depth of field explores movement without limitation!
