On this episode, we catch up on how things have been going in our lives during our brief hiatus (or hi-yay-tus as Kristine likes to pronounce it), and delve into the world of what it's like being born Filipina Canadian. We share the good, the bad and the ugly thoughts and perceptions we have, and we also touch on what's in store for Future Filipina.

On International Women's Day, we acknowledge and honour each and every woman for every achievement, every hardship and every single thing that women have done and continue to do to help bring equality, diversity and inclusion to the world today. We are grateful for all the connections we have made in the past, and the connections we will make in the future, and we are immensely grateful to have this platform to be able to bring our voices as women forward.

Happy International Women's Day!

As Filipino Heritage Month comes to an end, Kristine and I both have really been taking in who we are at our core as Filipinas. We weren’t born in the Philippines, and in many instances growing up we’d gone through a lot of experiences and situations where we didn’t know where we belonged. Were we Canadians? Filipinos? We think through every podcast episode and future ones to come, we’re here to keep on discovering different parts of who we are and what comes up for us in various topics we’ll dive into. We’re really excited and so grateful for everyone in our community who are representing the Philippines through your work, stories and stories experiences, your projects and businesses 🇵🇭

We’re here to support everything you do and we’ve got big things coming! ✨🔥✨🔥✨

Yesterday I had my hair done 💇🏻‍♀️ at . I met the owner Loribelle and her staff, and it was just so amazing to see another filipina boss babe in action doing her thing.

I was initially going to have a colour consultation with her and just do my haircut, but she said a haircut and colour goes hand in hand and oh 👌🏽✨was she damn right about that!

The soft highlights and trim gave me the boost I needed for my self-esteem. As a mama of a 3 year old, I’ve been worn down and only now am I able to really prioritize myself without major mom guilt. As a part of my self-compassion journey, I’m really pushing myself to be there for me like I would a friend.

Growing up, especially in my high school years living out puberty and the awkwardness of it all in an all girls 👧🏻 catholic high school just was the cherry on top for my anxiety and depression that really wasn’t diagnosed until I turned 30. My body issues and just society in general at that time really didn’t help my self-esteem. Mix that in with the tita’s making remarks about my up and down weight gain.

But I can tell you now that after this hair transformation, I really felt beautiful in my brown skin. In my filipina skin. I was always proud growing up, but I’m really now proud to be a thick filipina bad ass woman. The woman in this mirror has gone through it honey. And I am not holding any part of me for no one. That’s what future filipina is all about. To really dig into that self compassion, that fire 🔥 you know you have within you to truly authentically be you. All of you.

Our latest episode ( #3) is out right now, and I talk more in depth about my journey to self compassion with my body. Link is in bio ❤️
