GAME REVIEW #3
Title: Lies of P (2023) [Neowiz Games]
Gameplay: Lies of P is a pretty solid Souls-like title that has a couple of elements that aren't standard in these kinds of games. There are dodge mechanics, heavy attacks, light attacks, but the most interesting is their parry system. Think sort of like Sekiro but much easier parry windows and the opportunity for perfect parries. They also add in weapon durability (weapons won't break and destroy, but after so much use, they will decay and do less damage). Using a grindstone you just spend a couple seconds to increase the durability back, it's not awful to manage and adds a solid layer to the gameplay. There is also a legion arm which adds abilities like a flame thrower, electricity, mines, etc. So there are a few aspects that give this souls-like it's own unique feel!
Positives: The leveling in the game is fairly fast paced, I'm currently on my 2nd playthrough about 80% through the run and I'm level 116. Once you hit 100 the Ergo to level up only increases by 1. So its currently 16,017 Ergo to level up which is nice compared to the increases in other Souls-like titles. The story is pretty decent and dialogue and voice acting were solid. The boss fights are unique and can be challenging especially after the first few chapters and bosses have 2 health bars instead of 1.
Negatives: Not a lot to add here, but I will be picky and say that the ending that I chose for my first run wasn't an ending I liked. But there are 2 more I haven't seen yet that I'm currently working on. I do feel like the replay value on this game is subpar compared to other souls likes as there isn't much change between anything other than mobs hit much harder and you get more Ergo. So I would say after seeing all the endings I don't see much replay value in the title (but you'll beat it 3 times just to do that, so not terrible)
Final Thoughts: Overall I'm a huge fan of the atmosphere on this game. The steampunk/horror atmosphere it puts off really gives me BioShock vibes and I'm a huge fan of BioShock. The gameplay is very solid, I didn't run into any massive bugs or anything that frustrated me other than a couple tough boss fights. With this being on game pass, I highly recommend playing it if you like Soulsborne titles. You likely won't be disappointed.
Overall Rating: (7.5/10)
