Sunglasses Day is on Tuesday 27th June and it’s an ideal opportunity to remind your patients of the need to protect their eyes from the sun and its harsh UV rays.

Some ideas:

🕶 Show off some pictures of your sunglass range.
🕶 A video of light adaptive lenses changing in the light.
🕶 A sunglass selfie.
🕶 Remind your patients that children’s eyes are particularly vulnerable to UV.
🕶 Remind people of the link between UV and eye disorders/diseases such as cataracts and AMD etc.
🕶 The leaflet “Lifestyle and Eyes” - which is supplied by the - has a useful paragraph about sunshine. You could take a picture of the front page of the leaflet, write a few lines and invite your patients to ask for a copy of the leaflet on their next visit.

Just a reminder that it is ! An ideal opportunity to plan some social media content, there are lots of areas that you can explore in your posts!

You could share a diagram of the cross section of the eye and explain what the macula does.

You can talk about the impact of macular disease, and if your practice is fundraising for the tag them and highlight why funding research into finding a cure is vital.

Do you have an OCT? If so, tell your audience about what it does and what the benefits of having an OCT scan are. Maybe you have some interesting OCT images to share?

Do any of your optometrists have (or are they studying towards) med ret certificates? If so, that would make a lovely post!

So it’s Remembrance Day and we’re preparing for a minutes silence at 11am at our practice - if you’re holding a minute’s silence, be sure to update your followers so they know about it if they pop in.

So, it’ll be Halloween on Monday and although the trick or treaters won’t be calling for another couple of days, this evening is when lots of people will be heading off to Halloween parties - so now is the time to remind people of the perils of wearing novelty contact lenses as part of their costumes.​​​​​​​​

On Monday morning be sure to remind your audience that if they did not heed your advice and their eyes are now sore.. they can call your practice for help.​​​​​​​​

Later on Monday, be sure to wish everyone a Happy Halloween as lots of your followers will be taking their excited children trick or treating!

​Diwali is the five day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali is a festival of new beginnings, the triumph of good over evil and of light over darkness. The Diwali festival takes place over five days, this year the 22nd to 26th October and today is the main day of celebration.​​​​​​​​

So, today is World Sight Day!​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
At my practice and for my social media clients, I used it as an opportunity to remind our audiences to book an eye examination, after I read that 17.5 million brits have not had an eye examination in the last two years! 🤯​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness ( ) gave this year’s World Sight Day the theme of and they encourage “individuals to prioritise their own eye health whilst advocating for accessible, affordable and available eye care the world over.”​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
I also saw that King Charles has sent congratulations to the President of Malawi today to mark the country’s successful elimination of trachoma. Trachoma is a leading cause of blindness in Southern Africa and Malawi is the first country there to reach the goal of eliminating it. 🎉 ​​​​​​​​
