Art can be described as an object or experience consciously created through expressions of skill or imagination in diverse forms. Visual arts are art that meets the eye and evokes emotion through an expression of skill and imagination. They include ancient forms such as painting and drawing, and the arts that were born thanks to the development of technology like sculpture, printmaking, photography, and installation art.

Born in Zundert, Netherlands on the 30th of March 1853, Vincent Willem van Gogh, a Dutch Post-impressionist painter created approximately 2100 artworks in just over a decade. They include landscapes, still-life portraits, and self-portraits which are characterized by bold, symbolic colours and dramatic, impulsive, and highly expressive work that contributed to the foundations of modern art.

He was aged 37 and survived by his brother, Theodore Van Gogh. He sold only one painting during his lifetime and became famous after his su***de which was presumed to be triggered by years of poverty and mental illness. His notable works are Sunflowers (1887), Bedroom in Arles (1888), The Starry Night (1889), Wheatfield with Crows (1890), Sorrowing old man (1890).

🎥: The Florida Project; 2017.
Genre: Drama/Indie film.
Director: Sean Baker.

A critically acclaimed drama, this slice-of-life film explores the themes of poverty, childhood, and the consequences of social and economic inequalities.

It glimpses into the summer adventures of Moone (Brooklyn Prince), a precocious six-year-old girl who lives with her rebellious unemployed mother, Halley (Bria Vinaite) in a budget motel called “Magic Castle.” Overseeing the entire motel community is Bobby (William Dafoe), a quasi-stern, kindhearted father figure to both the children and young parents at the motel.

The humid summer days unfold, and Baker gives the audience a raw cut of these characters' lives as the plotline of the movie provides us with an avenue to experience Moone’s joy and pain while we watch the movie from her perspective.

While the motel residents struggle to come up with the week’s rent and avoid eviction, Moonee and her boisterous band of friends spend their summer transforming the strip of motels, gift shops and abandoned lots into their private playground much to the annoyance of Bobby.

In ancient Egypt, Thoth (alias; Djehuty/Tehuti) was known as the god of the moon, sacred texts, mathematics, the sciences, magic, messenger and recorder of the deities, master of knowledge and patron of the scribes. He was credited with creating languages, conceptualizing the art of writing, inventing the calendar, and controlling space and time.

His Egyptian name “Djehuty,” translates to “He who is like the Ibis.” He was depicted as an Ibis bird or a Baboon, holding an “Ankh” which is the Egyptian symbol for life. In the later history of ancient Egypt, Thoth became heavily associated with the arbitration of godly disputes, the art of magic, the system of writing and the judgement of the dead.

Thoth’s Haven is a concept created for the preservation of knowledge and the “documentation” of life. It is a library of sorts geared to explore in it's seemingly unconventional manner, what makes society thrive and perhaps, by learning about our past and present, we can catch a glimpse of what our future holds.
