Improviser Spotlight🤩
Alex Denney is an improviser, actor, writer, and musician who likely went completely insane during his isolation in 2020 (a quarter-sized patch of the hair on the back of his head fell out, though it has since grown-back in) throwing himself completely into over 50 episodes of his improvised podcast, Island Life with Alex Denney, where he plays a version of himself shipwrecked on an island of talking animals (available at islandlifepod.com or any podcast player).
Despite this growing madness, or because of it, in 2021 he was booked on (and mostly cut-out of) an episode of CBS’s NCIS: Hawai’i (his first time back on Oahu since he lived there from 2010-2012), as well as episode 7 of Pam & Tommy on Hulu (whether he also gets cut out of that remains to be seen: tune-in on March 2 to find out!).
Though it is unlikely that Alex was ever mentally well, prior to going completely off the deep end, he studied short form improv and sketch as a Second City Hollywood Conservatory graduate. It was there Alex met Adario Mercadante, which led to Adario playing Yammo the Hyena on Island Life, which in turn led to Alex being invited on the Ask Questions podcast, so things really have gone full circle.
Alex additionally studied long form improv at Westside Comedy Theater, and four years of scene study at RAW Acting Studio. Plus, there are videos of him online covering about a third of the musical Hamilton on the ukulele, something nobody asked for, but quite a few people seemed to enjoy.
Follow Alex’s further descent into lunacy, and whether it ultimately leads him to success in a business which tends to reward crazy weirdos, or to ignominious obscurity, on his social media and at alexdenney.com.
