Solange released the Saint Heron digital archive library Thursday, September 25, 2025 expanding on the 2021 community library project. It features rare and out-of-print works by African/Afro-descendant authors and artists making them more widely and accessible. GO SOLANGE!!

Solange Launches The Saint Heron Library: A Free Archive of Black and Brown Voices

Artist and visionary Solange Knowles has launched The Saint Heron Library, a free digital and physical archive devoted to preserving and sharing rare, out-of-print works by Black and Brown authors, poets, and artists.

The library’s collection includes first editions, artist books, and archival works that are often kept behind institutional walls or in private collections. By digitizing and lending these materials, Saint Heron aims to make them accessible to all — not just scholars or collectors.

Readers can borrow books for free for 45 days, receiving a prepaid return label to send them back. The entire system runs on trust and community, echoing Solange’s belief in collective responsibility and open cultural exchange.

Solange stated, “We would like to play a small part in creating free access to the expansive range of critical thought and expression by these great minds.”

Through this project, The Saint Heron Library continues her broader mission of cultural preservation, reimagining what archives can mean for marginalized voices.

People steal things because they don't believe they have any talent or way they can survive or contribute, so they must take from others.
