Milwaukee police charged 35-year-old Donovan Jones with two counts of first-degree reckless homicide after a fatal double shooting Saturday, Oct. 18 near Ruby and Appleton.
In the complaint, Milwaukee police reported to the residence after Jones called 911 stating he thought he k*lled his friend. Upon arrival they located two men who have been sh*t, Dwayne Carter, 33, and Shaquill Madison, 43. Madison was transferred to a local hospital for treatment but died from his injuries.
Carter was found in the basement and Madison was located outside the front door of the house by law enforcement. Jones spoke to police on scene and explained that he arrived at a residence near Ruby and Appleton with Madison where they went to “eat food and have fun.”
In the morning, Madison and Carter told Jones that someone was coming into the residence wearing a black ski mask and the three of them pulled out their guns and retreated into the basement. Jones stated in the complaint that he hid underneath the stairs while Madison and Carter hid in another part. He believed he heard someone running around the house towards the stairs and coming down them. He then fired off eight shots by the doorway under the stairs but “couldn’t see what or who he was sh*oting at.”
A witness stated that while cleaning a masked man walked in the front door with “an AK-47.” He pointed it into the room, made shooting sounds, then left. She ran into the basement where Jones was and heard a gunshot and glass breaking but didn’t know who was shot. She then ran out of the basement, saw Carter on the basement floor and heard Jones calling 911 saying he sh*t his friend.
Footage recovered from the scene shows the outside of the home. It captured a heavy-set man, wearing a black ski mask and dark clothing, carrying a rifle run towards the front door and go inside. After three seconds he is seen running out. Madison is then seen stumbling out the front door and falling to the ground.
Jones is currently being held on $250k cash bond.
